What does a Network Technician do?

A Network Technician is employed in an IT support role to ensure that all company-wide networks, communication channels and IT systems are up to date, connected and running efficiently. A Network Technician works with an IT department to build and maintain local area networks, wireless networks and employee operating systems. A Network Technician can also be employed to work directly with clients to establish similar networks and systems for customers or to provide customer service support and troubleshooting.

We are looking to recruit for the new role of Network Field Technician. This is a multi-disciplined role dealing with customer reported water supply issues, new supply connections and providing a first visit resolution for small leaks, minor maintenance requirements or undertaking larger scale repairs as part of a team. The role includes excavation work by hand or by mechanical means and responding to water supply emergencies in and out of normal working hours. Senior Network Technicians require experience leading a small team, supervising projects and delegating tasks.

     

    Network Technician education and training requirements

    Network Technicians need an academic background in maths, English and IT. Strong GCSE and A-level results are desirable. Employers can also look for candidates with practical college qualifications, such as a Level 2 Certificate in ICT Systems Support.
