Child Death Review Nurse
Job details
£58,133 - £65,261 a year
Full-time
London NW1
Full job description
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate children’s nurse or midwife to join the West and North London ICB Child Death Review team. This is a highly sensitive and emotionally demanding role, providing skilled coordination and support following the death of a baby, child or young person. The post holder will meet bereaved parents and families, sometimes in their homes, and will offer a consistent, accessible point of contact throughout the child death review process.
You will communicate complex and potentially distressing information with empathy, clarity and professional sensitivity. You will help families navigate what happens after their child has died, ensure their questions and views are heard, and signpost them to bereavement, practical, advocacy and other specialist support. You will also provide feedback at appropriate stages and advocate for the family’s voice within the child death review process.
About the role
Experience of the child death review procedures and of supporting children and families through grief, bereavement or other highly distressing circumstances is particularly relevant. Emotional resilience is essential. The role involves regular exposure to traumatic information and direct contact with families at an exceptionally difficult time. You will need to balance warmth and compassion with professional boundaries, confidentiality, safeguarding responsibilities and attention to your own wellbeing.
Working closely with the Senior Manager Nurse, Designated Lead Nurse and Designated Doctor for Child Death Review, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference to bereaved families while helping multi-agency professionals learn from every child’s death and improve services for children and young people. If you are a compassionate
and experienced practitioner who can combine sensitive family support with effective multi-agency coordination, we would welcome your application.
Who we are
We are NHS West and North London . We are the main commissioning NHS organisation for planning and funding health services across our area. Our job is simple: to help people stay healthy and to make sure everyone can get good care when they need it.
We bring together many health and care services across west and north London. This means we help hospitals, GPs, community services, councils and charities work better together for local people.
NHS West and North London (WNL) serves over 4.5 million people and covers 13 London boroughs. (Barnet, Brent, Camden, Ealing, Enfield, Hammersmith & Fulham, Haringey, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Islington, Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster)
What we do
We plan and fund local health and care services
We support GPs, hospitals, mental health teams, community clinics and pharmacies.
We work with councils and community groups so care is joined-up and easy to use.
We listen to local people and use their ideas to improve services.
We want health and care to be fair, simple and close to home.
Our strategy
Reducing inequalities
Investing strategically to prevent ill health
Better supporting people with the greatest needs, so everyone stays well
Make care more local and easier to access
Empowered local people that feel more confident about their health and wellbeing
Please see attached Job Description for full person specification.
