Full job description

About the job.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Employee Communication Business Partner to join our Employee Communication and Engagement division (part of the HR and Employee Communication directorate) on an 18-month fixed term contract basis.

Within this role, you’ll play a key part in partnering with a variety of our directorates and will work closely with directorate specific Employee Communication Business Partners to support their business-as-usual activities. You’ll work closely with the leadership teams to deliver engaging communications that enhance and promote strategic and operational business priorities to support improved organisational performance, staff engagement and employee relations.

But that’s not all; you will be part of a corporate team of Business Partners and will provide directorates with employee communication and engagement advice, guidance and tactical support to ensure successful execution and delivery of key activities which align with our Employee Communication and Engagement strategy. The ability to lead a project through its lifecycle to deliver innovative communication solutions whilst meeting deadlines and stakeholder expectation is essential.

  • In partnership with the directorate Employee Communication Business Partners, provide strategic communication advice and guidance to Executive Directors and leadership teams, enabling the delivery of engaging, meaningful communication.
  • Own and lead on assigned tasks, working closely with the wider Employee Communication and Engagement team to ensure communication is aligned to the corporate employee communication objectives, effectively planned and delivers measurable outcomes.
  • Act as the account manager for your activities and as an enabler of integrated employee communication, planning and delivery. Ensuring that communication objectives and priorities are clear, messages are consistent, and all communication is evaluated against agreed measures.
  • Provide check and challenge to the directorates’ leadership teams on timing of corporate communication activity, messages, channel, prioritising communications and targeting audiences appropriately.
  • Support the directorate leadership teams in the development and delivery of leadership employee communication: content for speeches and presentations, coaching, advising and supporting people managers to communicate effectively.

The role can be based in any of our National Highways UK offices and will be worked on a hybrid basis, with a combination of office and home working. You will be required to attend the office at least 2 days per week.

About you.

  • Professional qualifications – CIPR/CIM or equivalent and educated to degree level or equivalent in an appropriate discipline.
  • Demonstrable experience in internal communications including effective stakeholder management experience on large projects.
  • Exceptional organisational skills, combined with ability to prioritise and meet deadlines on multiple projects/tasks in constantly changing environments.
  • Superior communication skills – written, verbal, creative campaigns, across all channels and mediums including digital and social.
  • Experience in defining, delivering and evaluation communication strategies and detailed plans.
  • Strong PowerPoint and Excel skills and familiarity with project management/communication planning and content management system software/tools.

About us.

Our priorities are safety, customers and delivery, and at the core of this, are our values of passion, integrity, safety, teamwork and ownership.
