As a growing organisation with ambitious plans for development, we are seeking a confident, experienced and values-driven Responsible Individual to join our senior leadership team, working alongside our existing Responsible Individual to provide strong strategic leadership and regulatory oversight across our services.

Our Services

You will have shared oversight across:

  • An 6–10 bed Learning Disabilities home in Brightlingsea
  • A solo EBD provision in Basildon
  • Two 3-bed EBD homes in Romford

This role requires proven experience within both Learning Disabilities (LD) and Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) settings.

About the Role

Reporting to the Operations Director, the Responsible Individual will work collaboratively with our current RI to ensure our homes operate in full compliance with Ofsted regulations while delivering the highest possible standards of care.

This is a senior leadership position suited to:

  • An established Responsible Individual seeking to join a growing provider, or
  • An experienced Registered Manager ready to step into an RI position.

The role is hybrid in nature; however, you will be expected to maintain a consistent and visible presence within the homes to ensure effective oversight, meaningful relationships with children and teams, and strong operational governance.

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure all homes meet and exceed Ofsted regulations and standards
  • Support preparation for Ofsted inspections.
  • Address areas of non-compliance and implement robust improvement plans.

Governance & Leadership

  • Provide strategic leadership across services.
  • Develop, review and implement policies aligned with regulatory and best practice standards.
  • Promote accountability and a culture of continuous improvement.

Quality Assurance

  • Support and oversee a comprehensive quality assurance framework.
  • Conduct regular audits of care practices and systems.
  • Analyse performance data and report against KPIs to Directors.
  • Maintain accurate regulatory records.

Staff Leadership & Performance

  • Direct Line Management for Registered Managers, providing supervision and performance oversight.
  • Monitor indicators such as sickness, turnover and complaints.
  • Support interim management where required.
  • Promote professional development and learning.

Safeguarding & Welfare

  • Ensure safeguarding policies are robust and consistently applied.
  • Maintain oversight of care planning and outcomes.
  • Develop strong knowledge of each child, their Care Plans and EHCPs.
  • Uphold the rights, safety and wellbeing of every child.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work collaboratively with Local Authorities, health professionals and education providers.
  • Build positive relationships with children, families and external partners.

Budget & Growth Oversight

  • Support oversight of home budgets and resource allocation.
  • Ensure appropriate referral matching and occupancy.
  • Contribute to safe and compliant service development.

About You

We are seeking a leader who demonstrates:

  • Significant senior experience within children’s residential care.
  • Experience as a Registered Manager or Responsible Individual.
  • Proven experience across both EBD and LD services.
  • In-depth knowledge of Ofsted regulations.
  • Strong safeguarding expertise.
  • Strategic thinking and analytical capability.
  • Excellent communication and partnership working skills.
  • A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people.
  • Full UK Driving License.

A relevant qualification in Social Work, Child Care or a related field (or willingness to work towards one) is required.
