Full job description

Overview

BioWatt advises our clients on the production, delivery and processing of over 200,000 tonnes of agricultural feedstocks every year - and with a further 3 renewable natural gas production facilities in construction - this is set to double over the next 18-24 months.

Job Description:

We are therefore seeking a proactive agricultural specialist to support the management of our farmer suppliers providing crops, manures, and agricultural residues to the biogas plants we operate. Reporting directly to the CEO, this is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate with 1 to 3 years of experience in agronomy, agricultural business, or land management to make an impact in the renewable energy sector. The role involves managing and maintaining long-term contracts with farmer suppliers, overseeing the supply of feedstocks, and ensuring timely and efficient delivery of agricultural materials for biogas production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supplier Management: Find, build and maintain strong relationships with farmer suppliers, ensuring clear communication about annual feedstock agreements. Work closely with farmers to determine the required crop varieties, manures, and residues needed for biogas plants.
  • Annual Feedstock Planning: Collaborate with farmers to finalise annual feedstock plans, confirming the types and quantities of materials to be delivered, considering crop rotations, yield expectations, and operational needs of the biogas plants.
  • Logistics Coordination: Organise harvest schedules and coordinate logistics between farmers and site operations to ensure feedstocks are delivered at the right time and in the right quantities. Manage clamping arrangements and storage for materials as required.
  • Feedstock Tracking & Reporting: Track and report on the status of feedstocks to ensure accurate forecasting and supply management. Provide regular updates to Directors and client sites regarding feedstock availability.
  • Harvest & Crop Rotation Management: Work with farmers to coordinate harvest times and ensure that crop rotation schedules are adhered to, optimising feedstock production and supporting long-term sustainability.
  • Problem Solving: Address any issues or disruptions in the supply chain, collaborating with farmers to resolve challenges related to timing, yield, or feedstock quality.
  • Compliance & Best Practices: Ensure feedstock management practices align with company standards, industry regulations, and environmental guidelines. Promote best practices for sustainable agriculture and resource management.

Key Skills & Qualifications:

  • A degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Business, Land Management, or a related field.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience working in agronomy, agricultural business, or land management, ideally in roles involving supplier or farm management.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with farmers and internal teams.
  • Good understanding of crop rotations, harvesting schedules, and agricultural feedstocks, particularly in relation to biogas production.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise deadlines, and coordinate with various stakeholders effectively.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or google business suite and basic agricultural management software.
  • A keen interest in sustainability, renewable energy, and the role agriculture plays in supporting biogas production.
