Apprentice HGV Driver – Start as a Van Driver and Progress to HGV

H & R Gray Haulage Ltd is a long established family business.

We’re offering a fantastic opportunity to join our Palletline team as an Apprentice HGV Driver. This structured role is perfect for someone eager to build a long‑term driving career with a supportive employer.

You’ll begin as a Van Driver, gaining hands‑on experience, learning our routes, and becoming familiar with our customers and operations. As you progress, we’ll support you through your HGV training and licence acquisition, helping you step up into a full HGV Driver position.

Job Description – Van Driver (Starting Role) Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver and collect various palletised goods
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately
  • Load the vehicle in line with health and safety procedures
  • Reconcile deliveries and ensure accuracy
  • Keep the vehicle clean and tidy inside and out, reporting any faults or defects
  • Follow all Company Health & Safety and HR policies
  • Wear PPE and company uniform at all times

Qualifications & Experience

  • Excellent timekeeping is essential
  • Previous van‑driving experience preferred but not essential
  • Customer care experience preferred but not essential

Skills & Knowledge

  • Manual handling capability
  • Ability to work on your own initiative
  • Good numeracy skills
  • Excellent customer service
  • Knowledge of FK/PH/PA postcodes is desirable
