We are in the business of creating the new rules for Coffee, brunch and cocktails in Southampton, not following them. A key objective for this role is to implement and consistently set standards for robust, efficient procedures and processes that define and measure best practices, and by effectively implementing these to ensure our small business operates sustainably and safely and gives us room to continue to grow. In addition, as a key member of the Mettricks management team, your input will be pivotal in shaping the development of The Mettricks Way, by which we will set the foundations for our business.

Your ability to blend the talents, motivation and commitment of our team will create a great place to work and deliver service and standards that exceed our customers expectations everyday, be it the tea & coffee they drink, the high quality, locally sourced food we serve, maintaining and building on our position at the heart of our community or the interaction of our team with customers.

You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless day-to-day operations and overall success of the establishment. Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will be responsible for supervising floor staff & baristas, maintaining high standards of customer service, and contributing to the growth and profitability of the business. This dynamic position requires a proactive and detail-orientated individual with strong leadership skills and a passion for creating a positive customer experience.

ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER KEY ATTRIBUTES

The role would be best suited to an individual who can demonstrate:

1. OPERATIONAL/DAY-TO-DAY MANAGEMENT

Assist the General Managers required to:

- Help to ensure the store maintains the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and safety, adhering to health and safety regulations.

- Aid the implementation of efficient equipment maintenance schedules to minimise downtime and ensure a seamless customer experience.

- Aid the implementation of strategic stock control measures, utilising data analytics to balance reduced wastage with optimal product availability.

- Help to cultivate and nurture strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating favourable terms, and staying abreast of industry trends for potential collaborations.

2. PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

Assist the General Managers required to:

2.1 WHAT IS EXPECTED?

- Lead by example to inspire a positive and energetic work environment, driving the team to deliver an exceptional coffee house experience.

- Take the lead with your line manager assistance in hosting regular team meetings to reinforce company values and principles, addressing any concerns or challenges promptly.

- Take a proactive role in talent management, actively participating in and at times leading recruitment, conducting thorough training programs, providing constructive feedback, and managing disciplinary and grievance procedures.

- Help to efficiently coordinate the weekly rota, manage holiday requests, and ensure accurate payroll submission.

3. FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

Assist the General Managers required to:

- Take joint ownership of the store's financial performance, employing a data-driven approach to enhance profitability.

- Utilise advanced data analytics for in-depth analysis of sales trends, wastage patterns, and wage expenditure.

- Help to proactively forecast future sales volumes, applying insights to strategic rota planning for cost control and revenue maximisation.

4. STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT

Assist the General Managers required to:

- Help to develop and execute a robust communication plan to ensure seamless information flow with key stakeholders, including team members, suppliers, and senior management.

- Cultivate a culture of open communication within the team, ensuring colleagues are well-informed about business performance, new initiatives, and relevant updates.

6. MARKETING MANAGEMENT

Assist the General Managers required to:

- Actively contribute to store-level marketing efforts, harnessing the power of social media to engage with the local community and promote the Mettricks brand.

- Shape a compelling in-store narrative that highlights the unique attributes of Mettricks, emphasising the family-oriented, local, and quality-driven aspects.

- Develop and execute a dynamic promotional and events calendar, aligning with business goals to drive sales and enhance brand visibility.

7. CUSTOMER MANAGEMENT

Assist the General Managers required to:

7.1 WHAT IS EXPECTED?

- Instil and promote a customer-centric culture, consistently delivering the highest standards of hospitality to create a memorable experience for patrons.

- Help to implement strategies to build and nurture customer loyalty, leveraging customer feedback to enhance service and product offerings.

- Help to develop and execute initiatives to expand the base of regular customers, transforming them into dedicated Mettricks champions.
