Full job description

We are currently looking for an experienced Assistant Quarry Manager to join the team at Patersons Quarries. This is a Dual Site role across two of our smaller quarries - Floak Quarry in Newton Mearns and Dumbuckhill Quarry in Dumbarton.

At Patersons Quarries we operate hard rock Quarries and a Quarry working Silica Sand, supplying industrial minerals into specialist sand markets and construction markets.

We are looking for a dedicated and effective Assistant Manager to provide a long-term role across the two quarries, a company Van is included to enable travel between the two sites. .

Reporting to the Quarry Manager, you will support with covering quarrying and daily operations as well as managing the quarry in the Quarry Managers absence.

Elements To the Role Include:

  • Support compliance of the company’s Health and Safety Rules, Health and Safety policies, Environmental Policy, Site Specific Rules and to ensure that all activities under your control are conducted within the requirements of current legislation.
  • Ensuring that key government health and safety legislation (The Quarries Regulations 1999, The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 & The Health & Safety at Work etc Act 1974) is implemented throughout the site.
  • Efficient utilisation of all plant, equipment and facilities under your control to ensure optimum return on the resources employed.
  • To ensure that production targets are achieved within the timescales and cost restraints as set by the company.
  • To aid the quarry in accordance with the planning permission and any other environmental permits.
  • To ensure quarry operations are carried out in accordance with the geotechnical assessment and quarry design plan.
  • Ensure there is a suitable and sufficient appraisal of all proposed and existing excavations or tips at the quarry in order to determine whether they represent a significant hazard.
  • Ensure operations are carried out in a manner which minimises their environmental impact on the surrounding area and our near neighbours.
  • Ensure that staff are managed effectively by following HR requirements such as dialogue, job review, performance and absence management.
  • Assist as appropriate in the establishment and understanding of individual product quality standards.
  • Plan production in order that it meets the volume and timescale requirements of sales.
  • Manage, maintain and safeguard the physical assets deployed on site in the most cost-effective manner.

Job Requirements

  • Proven experience operating excavators in a commercial setting is essential - our excavator is 50t so experience of this size is desirable.
  • Understanding of Quarry Regulations, Statutory Health & Safety and Employment legislation.
  • Previous experience within a Quarry leadership position.
  • Ability to interpret Aggregate Grading results would be beneficial.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective working relations with others.
  • Detail and results orientated with strong personal values to succeed.
  • Be able to plan and prioritise effectively.
  • Experience of working as part of a highly functioning team.

This is a permanent full-time role, the hours of work will be Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm and pay is dependant on experience with company pension included.
