Job purpose/ summary of the overall job assignment:

Join Qima Café as an Assistant Service Supervisor and play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our café. Working closely with the Service Supervisor, you will assist in leading the front-of-house team, managing daily operations, and ensuring an outstanding customer experience. In this role, you will provide support in staff training, customer service, and operational management. When the Service Supervisor is absent, you will be expected to cover their responsibilities, ensuring continuity in café operations and service excellence.

Key Accountabilities/Main Responsibilities:

Customer Service & Experience:

  • Provide friendly, efficient, and attentive service to customers, supporting the Service Supervisor in delivering an outstanding café experience.
  • Take orders, prepare beverages, and serve food items according to Qima Café’s quality standards.
  • Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and special requests, assisting the Service Supervisor in resolving issues with professionalism and care.
  • Proactively assist with upselling or promoting new menu items to enhance the customer experience.

Team Support & Leadership:

  • Assist the Service Supervisor in training, motivating, and supervising front-of-house staff to maintain high service standards.
  • Help manage staff schedules to ensure proper coverage while supporting efficient labor cost management.
  • Lead by example, ensuring staff members adhere to operational and customer service standards.
  • Step in as the acting Service Supervisor in their absence, overseeing the team and ensuring operations run smoothly.

Operational Support & Efficiency:

  • Assist in opening and closing the café, ensuring operational procedures are followed, and the café is clean and organized.
  • Support cash handling, POS transactions, and end-of-day reconciliation as needed.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist in maintaining stock of food and beverage supplies.
  • Ensure that all food safety, hygiene, and health & safety standards are adhered to during shifts.
  • Collaborate with kitchen and barista teams to ensure service consistency and smooth operations.

Coffee & Product Knowledge:

  • Assist in learning about Qima Café’s coffee offerings, brewing methods, and food menu to provide knowledgeable service to customers.
  • Maintain equipment functionality and report any maintenance needs to management.
  • Stay informed about coffee and food trends, contributing ideas to enhance the menu or improve the café experience.

Health, Safety, and Hygiene:

  • Follow all food safety and hygiene procedures, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Conduct regular temperature checks, monitor allergen awareness, and ensure adherence to safety guidelines.
  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness and sanitization across the café, including regular cleaning schedules and stock rotation.
  • Support the team in maintaining safe and sanitized workstations, ensuring readiness for service.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
  • Cover for the Service Supervisor during their absence, ensuring service continuity and operational efficiency.
  • Take on additional tasks as needed to support café operations and ensure a positive customer experience.

Additional Responsibilities as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

Required:

  • Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in a supervisory/managerial or customer-facing role within a café, restaurant, or hospitality setting.
  • Strong leadership abilities and a team-oriented attitude.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a passion for hospitality.
  • Solid knowledge of café operations, including POS systems, inventory management, and cash handling.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle customer concerns efficiently.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Attention to detail to ensure quality, cleanliness, and consistency.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.

Desired:

  • Previous barista experience or knowledge of coffee preparation.
  • Experience with customer engagement initiatives, such as loyalty programs or promotions.
  • Background in inventory management and ordering processes for both food and beverages.
  • First-aid certification and/or food safety training (preferred but training can be provided).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £25,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
