Operating from Forest Wood Quarry, CF72, we are part of the Ryan Jones Group – a long established name known for reliability, professionalism, and service excellence across the construction and civil engineering sectors.
Job introduction:
Aggregates Express are looking for an experienced and respected Business Development Manager to join their team at Forest Wood Quarry, CF72. This key role covers south Wales and must have the ability to maximise each company’s profitability while offering to expand our existing client base, strengthen commercial relationships, and drive sustainable growth including diversification.
This role would suit someone with a background in aggregates (primary and recycled) and waste management, looking for a stable, predominately field based role where you can take full ownership of your own schedule, manage the entire sales process from start to finish, and enjoys building strong long-term relationships within an SME.
The ideal candidate would possess personal attributes who is commercially astute and self-motivated with a proven track record in business development with our industry.
You must have a full valid driving licence.
The role:
You will report to the Director and work collaboratively with the office team.
The core office hours of work is 8am-5pm, however, you will be required to work in excess of these hours as reasonably necessary for the proper performance of your duties and to meet the needs of the businesses, this includes evenings and/or weekends for networking.
You will take ownership of identifying, pursuing and securing new business opportunities across the aggregates, construction and infrastructure sectors. You’ll act as the face of Aggregates Express, ensuring our products and services are represented with credibility and integrity.
Key responsibilities:
· Develop effective strategies to forecast sales, increase profits, and target new sectors and regions.
· Retain, build and nurture lasting relationships with clients, staff and suppliers.
· Identify and secure new business opportunities through proactive outreach and strategic networking.
· Conduct regular market research to stay ahead of industry trends, competitor activities, and client needs.
· Develop and manage a sales strategy to track leads, opportunities, and conversions. Chase leads with the aim to convert.
· Negotiate agreements with professionalism, ensuring mutual benefit for both clients and the businesses.
· Prepare proposals, pricing and tenders in coordination with operations and transport teams.
· Maintain accurate administrative records to achieve full traceability between internal and external stakeholders.
· Work collaboratively with internal team to align business development activities with company goals.
· Collaborate and manage marketing campaigns including social media to enhance brand visibility and generate new leads.
· Provide regular updates and analysis of performance metrics, ensuring transparency and data-driven decision-making.
· Manage time effectively to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.
· Developing a comprehensive diversification strategy that aligns with the organisation's goals and risk tolerance.
· Evaluating the potential costs, benefits, and financial feasibility of diversification opportunities before committing significant resources.
· Represent the company professionally at client lunches, trade events and networking events, fostering trust and long-term collaboration.
· Any other reasonable duties.
Essential qualities:
· Proven experience in business development, management or a related commercial roles ideally within the aggregates, recycling, and construction industry
· Skilled in contract negotiation, pricing structures and commercial risk assessment
· Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with strong phone etiquette.
· Highly organised, creative, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
· Self-motivated with a pro-active approach to sales
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to adapt to the company’s software and systems.
- Well respected within the industry for honesty, reliability and ethical conduct
· Knowledge of our products and services

Salary:
Base salary of £55-£70k depending on experience with the addition of earning up to 20% of base salary as part of our annual discretionary bonus incentive plan scheme.
