Job Description
Management and recording of customer 3D CAD data, 2D drawings and technical information for all UK BiW facilities, with respect to data import and export. Liaise with all internal departments and customers as the primary contact for all CAD enquiries from initial quotation to final end of life production, including service requirements. Responsible for maintaining access to / managing all inputs from customer specific portals and web sites. Controlling access permissions to FTP Site and supporting all departments with access rights. Use of Metal Forming Simulation software to assist in the estimation of initial blank requirements and material utilisation at quotation stage. Assisting with engineering change requests to create proposal data and technical investigations to support engineering discussions with customers.
Duties
- Maintaining access to / managing all inputs from customer specific portals and web sites
- Downloading data packages from a variety of OEMs into the correct storage locations using customer specific portals
- Importing packs of 3D CAD data/2D Drawings using customer specified CAD environments in CATIA V5 / NX into the appropriate storage locations
- Overlaying and interrogating 3D CAD data to determine changes from previous data and investigate part number or level modifications, or changes to the assembly content
- Accurately recording the import using Excel to maintain assembly & part history and ensure that the data is properly controlled.
- Investigating history of components to display and compare changes over time.
- Provide support to various plants and departments to check dimensional errors, create views etc.
- Communicate receipt of new CAD to relevant plants and departments in a clear and concise manner
- Export 2D & 3D CAD data, including technical information to other areas of the business, suppliers, customers, toolmakers in appropriate formats using different media (Emails / internal FTP / internal sharepoints / external portals)
- Production of presentation material to support engineering & commercial meetings using Microsoft programs.
- Some modification of CAD data in order to study potential improvements and support engineering change requests to OEMs
- Use of metal forming simulation software to assist in the estimation of initial blank requirements and material utilisation at quotation stage.
- Supporting the quotation team with initial input of CAD, exports to potential suppliers, interrogation of package content. Attendance to various meetings to discuss open issues and road blocks.
- Downloading and converting designs for checking fixtures, assembly cells, forming tools, robotic cells into 3DPDF viewer formats
- Controlling access permissions to FTP Site and supporting all departments with access rights
Required knowledge, skills or experience
- Knowledge and prior use of Automotive OEM specific CAD systems, working practices & portals
- At least 2 years of working with 3D & 2D CAD necessary - Catia V5 essential, NX preferable
- Experience of using teamcenter would be desired
- Experience and understanding of Metal Forming Simulation software necessary, FTI preferable
- Numeracy / Literacy skills to carry out written communication including emails, letters and presentation material.
- General computer literacy with a working knowledge of Microsoft software packages, predominantly Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience with Automotive OEM specific programme codes, part number formats, CAD levels, part descriptions necessary
- Working knowledge of project delivery and change management processes, preferably in an automotive environment
- Experience of Metal Forming simulation software.
