Caretaker

Salary: £22,661 - £23,362 per annum + benefits
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Type: Permanent
Location: Cheadle Hulme, SK8 6RQ, on site role

On Call: 1 week in four

We are currently seeking a Caretaker to join our diligent facilities team at our Cheadle Hulme campus.

As a Caretaker, you will provide professional caretaking and reactive maintenance services to ensure our buildings and grounds are well-maintained, supporting our core services to deliver high-quality education and care.

Manchester (RSM), Royal College Manchester (RCM), outreach health and family

services and residential homes which provide a safe and supporting environment.

Our state of the art facilities, including gardens, forest school, swimming pools, hydro pools, bike track and sports fields make Seashell truly unique.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Ensuring the security and safety of the site, especially during adverse weather conditions or similar unplanned events
  • Helping with routine health and safety checks on site (i.e. checking guttering, maintenance equipment checks)
  • Undertaking general caretaking duties as requested, including receiving and distributing deliveries, moving furniture, basic repairs, liaising with Contractors, responding to ad-hoc requests
  • Conducting planned maintenance (i.e. water flushing, visual inspections
  • Daily maintenance of the swimming and hydro pools including water safety checks
  • Any paintwork both internally and externally
  • Assisting with vehicle maintenance and safety checks
  • Ground maintenance (i.e. mowing, sweeping the rubber crumb on the 3G pitch) and assisting in the support and supervision of our Corporate Volunteers on use of grounds equipment
  • Driving Seashell owned vehicles both on site and off site (i.e. portering, to a garage, to make a delivery or collection)

Our site is continuously growing and developing, we’re currently undergoing works to build a brand-new Royal College Manchester, so the demands of our site are ever changing, with a lot of external contractors on site.

We’re looking for someone to be a Seashell Ambassador, and be committed to ensuring the continuous development of our site to support the children and young people in our care.

What you’ll need for the role:

  • Maths and English GCSE or equivalent
  • A full valid driving license
  • Previous experience within a similar role.
  • Ability to use basic IT systems and the use of Facilities Management Software
  • Good physical fitness to be able to undertake the required activities
  • Ability to work both as part of a team or independently
  • An affinity for problem solving
  • The ability to prioritize workload
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Enthusiastic
  • High standards of hygiene
  • Reliable with good time management
