We’re looking for somebody exceptional to work in our Development Team.

The team currently has 5 members, working closely with volunteer-led groups, energy experts, commercial and community entities to deliver new projects. We work as consultants on individual projects and as incubators of whole new approaches, from the ground-breaking Big Solar Co-op to the Community Heat Development unit

Our day-to-day work gets right to the heart of what makes community energy tick – from financial modelling to technical analysis, planning and delivery. Sharenergy encourages community groups to take the lead with their own projects and to enhance their skills and resilience. The role offers the opportunity to form close working relationships with interesting, innovative and driven groups throughout the country.

Community Energy Consultant

Your main task will be to conduct detailed feasibility studies which blend technical and business case assessments for a diverse range of technologies. Our main areas of work at present are in low-carbon heat networks and solar PV (both ground-mounted and rooftop), but we frequently work on other kinds of renewable energy scheme or on proposals which mix several technologies.

Key tasks will include:

  • Researching evolving technologies
  • Technical modelling of proposed solutions
  • Preparation of detailed and professional reports
  • Working with community energy groups to develop solutions
  • Input into financial modelling
  • Input into quoting for new work

You will also be required to:

  • Act as an advocate for community energy
  • Develop a good understanding of the regulatory environment
  • Liaise with technical and legal experts
  • Assist in the preparation of feasibility studies, business and marketing plans
  • Work with the wider Sharenergy team on related projects

Sharenergy encourages community groups to take the lead with their own projects and to enhance their skills and resilience. We are focused on delivering viable social enterprises. The role will offer the opportunity to form close working relationships with interesting, innovative and driven groups throughout the UK.

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • Excellent general understanding of renewable energy
  • Experience in technical assessment of projects
  • Expertise in using standard assessment tools in at least one renewable technology
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • An understanding of financial, policy and project management fundamentals.
