Full job description

Kitchen Assistant / Cook

Homebird Interiors – St Annes

Love great coffee, good food and creating a welcoming space people want to return to? This could be your perfect role.

We’re looking for a passionate and personable Cook / Kitchen Assistant to take ownership of food preparation within our lovely in-store café at our St Annes store. This is a rare opportunity to step into a fully established and beautifully set-up café space, where you’ll play a key role in developing and delivering a fresh, seasonal light lunch offering.

Our St Annes store has been open for two years and continues to grow in popularity. Around 18 months ago, we introduced our in-store café, which has quickly become a much-loved part of the store, bringing in new customers while giving our regulars another reason to visit and stay a little longer.

We serve excellent coffee (thanks to our brilliant North-West roastery partners), alongside a selection of cakes and pastries. We’re now looking to introduce a small but elegant and interesting light lunch menu, and we’re looking for someone who’s excited to help shape that, take the lead in the kitchen, and bring fresh ideas to the table.

You’ll be joining us at an exciting time as we build a new, dynamic café team and prepare to launch this updated offering over the summer, with support from our in-house marketing team to help grow our online and social presence.

About the role

This is a hands-on kitchen role, where you’ll take real ownership of food preparation while also helping shape how the café evolves.

You’ll:

  • Take responsibility for preparing and serving a small, carefully curated light lunch menu
  • Ensure consistently high standards of food preparation and presentation
  • Maintain a clean, organised and efficient kitchen environment
  • Work closely with the Café Manager and store team to develop and refresh menus with seasonal ideas
  • Support a smooth and enjoyable customer experience
  • Uphold and promote excellent food hygiene and safety standards
  • Assist with stock control, ordering and supplier coordination
  • Step into a leadership role when required, supporting the wider café team on days when the Café Manager isn’t present

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Naturally warm, friendly and a great team player
  • Experienced in a kitchen environment (essential)
  • Confident managing their time and working efficiently during busy periods
  • Passionate about food, with a genuine interest in creating simple, well-executed dishes
  • Keen to bring new ideas and help shape a menu that evolves seasonally
  • Organised, reliable and takes pride in maintaining high standards

A strong understanding of food hygiene and safety is essential. We’re happy to support you in gaining any additional qualifications if needed.

While we already offer a delicious selection of cakes, an ability or interest in baking, and contributing to this offering, would be a real bonus.

Why join us?

This is a unique opportunity to help shape and grow a café within a well-loved interiors store, with:

  • A fully equipped, established café space
  • A loyal and growing customer base
  • A warm, supportive and friendly team around you
  • The freedom to bring your own ideas and creativity
  • The chance to play a key role in developing a new food offering
  • A supportive senior management team who are happy to invest in new ideas and provide additional equipment where needed to help grow the offering

Hours & Pay

  • Ideally 3–5 days per week (Approximately 25-30 hours per week but can be flexible for the right person)
  • Must include one weekend day
  • Each shift is typically 4-6 hours
  • Our opening hours are Weekdays & Saturdays: 9am – 5pm, Sundays: 10am – 4pm
  • We can be adaptable with hours and some flexibility will be required on your part to meet the needs of the business

Pay:
£13–£14 per hour, depending on experience (with flexibility for the right candidate)

If you enjoy working with good food, take pride in what you create, and like the idea of helping shape something new within a friendly, design-led environment then we’d love to hear from you!

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: £13.00-£14.00 per hour

Expected hours: 25 – 30 per week

Work Location: In person
