Daycamp Delivery Lead – School Holiday only

YMCA Portsmouth

37.5 hours per week

£11.32 per hour

1st February 2024 to 10th November 2024

Job Purpose:

You will be based at Portsmouth Daycamps as a key member of the wider Programme Team, and you will be responsible for instructing and supervising daycamp activities on site.

Your main focus during Daycamps is to deliver a first class exciting and caring Daycamps programme for 4–16-year-olds during the school holidays.

Duties and Responsibilities during the school holidays:

  • Supervise the Playwork team, including leading team meetings.
  • Act as a positive role model for children and be a good representative for YMCA Fairthorne Group when regularly communicating with parent/carers and colleagues and other professional organisations.
  • Lead in the setting up, service delivery and cleaning up at the setting.
  • Be aware of and follow good practice guidelines for playwork and YMCA Fairthorne Groups Policies and procedures.
  • To have responsibility for the care of the children and young people and to take a lead in the management of their behaviour.
  • Ensure any changes required to the staffing, for example to cover absence, is completed as appropriate to ensure that there is adequate staffing in place throughout Daycamps to meet the childcare ratios, whilst also allowing staff to take adequate breaks.
  • Work closely with the Out of School Manager to ensure consistency of programme and procedures across Daycamps programmes.

Person Specification & Key Competencies:

Personal attributes

  • Genuine enthusiasm for the work of the organisation and the care of children and young people.
  • Ability to communicate well and engage with a wide range of people, including children, staff and group leaders.
  • Ability and willingness to relate positively to customers (many of whom are children), parents, carers and staff.
  • An aptitude for supervising a team of activity staff and volunteers
  • A committed approach to the development of the activity programme at Fairthorne Manor
  • An ability to deal with issues effectively and calmly as they arise
  • A sound understanding of effective customer service



  • Minimum 16-Hour First Aid Certificate – Paediatric
  • Extensive experience of working with children and young people.
  • Customer service experience
  • Experience of delivery out of school programmes


  • NVQ Level 3 in childcare or something similar
  • Experience of supervising staff or volunteers
  • ERCA Traditional Ropes Instructor
