Full job description
Job Title: Early Years Practitioner (Qualified Level 3)
Location: Kidderminster, Worcestershire
Salary: £12.54 per hour
Hours: minimum 28 hours per week, with up to 36 hours available depending on your availability and preference.. Occasional evening staff meetings and training sessions required. Time off in lieu (TOIL) awarded for out-of-hours work.

About Us: First Class Nursery, established in 1998 and now part of YMCA Worcestershire, offers quality childcare and education for children aged 3 months to 5 years. We are open 51 weeks a year, closing on Bank Holidays and over Christmas.
Job Purpose: To provide a high standard of care and education for children attending the Nursery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement a wide range of inclusive activities for children aged 3 months to 5 years.
- Support the learning of all children, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
- Adhere to the Statutory requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
- Contribute to and implement the nursery curriculum to ensure high-quality teaching and learning.
- Maintain a sound knowledge of child development and use guides such as Birth to 5, Development Matters, and Wellcomm.
- Ensure high standards of hygiene and encourage children to do the same.
- Adhere to Health & Safety procedures, ensuring supervision, vigilance, and continuous risk assessment.
- Maintain professionalism and abide by the nursery’s policies.
- Work collaboratively with other staff members as part of a team.
- Complete termly assessments, regular progress reviews, and parent conversations for key children.
- Participate in training courses to stay updated with current Early Years thinking.
- Liaise with parents and carers, maintaining confidentiality and high standards of record-keeping.
- Respond to safeguarding issues and follow policies and procedures.
Person Specification:
- Relevant Level 3 qualification in Childcare or equivalent.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
- Experience as a key worker preferred.
- Passion for early years education and a genuine desire to make a difference in children’s lives.
- Willingness to engage in fun, creative activities with children.
- To have a sense of fun, and be willing to dress up, read an exciting story, sing out of tune, dance, be a dog princess or a dinosaur, as requested on demand, get muddy outdoors and get messy whilst being creative would be an advantage.
To have a passion and respect for the early year’s profession and genuine desire to make a difference to a child’s life and learning journey.
Additional Information:
- Employment conditional upon satisfactory DBS Disclosure and verified references.
- Subject to a 6-month probation period.
