Job Overview

Are you recently retired and/or able to commit to a part-time, flexible position to help our local Community Centre? We are looking for a great team player who will play a key role in ensuring that the building and external/internal services meet the requirements of the Landlord including cleaning, DIY and security. Working closely with the Centre Manager you will ensure that CCC is a vibrant, well-run facility for the local community, tenants and corporate clients.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Opening/locking up and ensuring the building is safe and secure (particularly outside office hours).
  • General maintenance in and around the building including the upkeep and safe storage of supplies and ensuring that all equipment, fixtures and fittings are well-maintained.
  • Cleaning alongside other team members.
  • Health and safety - day to day compliance with legislation ensuring that basic facilities such as water, heating, lighting, fire alarm tests etc. are well-maintained. 
  • Set up and clear down of rooms according to bookings (including heavy lifting of furniture).
  • Overseeing the technology requirements of each booking.
  • Acting as Fire Marshal in event of evacuation.
  • Defects/repairs – noting and fixing/reporting where necessary.
  • Directing/assisting Centre users.
  • Car park management as required on busy days.
  • First Aid – Appointed person.

Person Specification

  • Experience of working in a similar type of service or building (desirable).
  • Confident and able to work on own initiative taking responsibility for tasks and prioritising work and demands (essential).
  • Physically healthy and able to lift and move furniture (essential - training provided).
  • Good communication skills (essential).
  • Customer service skills and fluency in English (essential).
  • Able to work flexibly as part of a small team - prioritising needs of centre management (essential).
  • Experience of Health & Safety and other policies and procedures relevant to community centres, including risk assessments and maintenance management (desirable).

Pay: £12.71 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 10.0 per week
