Finance Officer

Salary: £23,374 - £25,971 per annum (DOE) + benefits

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Type: Permanent, hybrid role

Role Summary

Here at Seashell we provide care and education for children and young people (up to 25 years old) with severe, profound and complex learning difficulties and disabilities, sensory impairment and communication disorders and autism.

We are recruiting Finance Officer to join our Accounts team, supporting the Management Accountant and Director of Finance in producing accurate and timely financial information to support the work of the Directors, Senior Leadership Team and Budget Holders across the Charity.


  • To post invoices to the purchase ledger, using the Sicon purchase order processing system which is linked to Sage
  • Ensure that invoices are only posted if there is an authorized order on Sicon, and, where orders have not been raised, to contact the relevant teams to request that they take corrective action
  • Raise Sales invoices for the Commercial side of the business
  • Monitor and update the debtors ledger regularly, ensuring all invoices are paid promptly
  • Manage and monitor petty cash usage
  • Manage monthly bank reconciliations
  • Regular analysis of restricted funds and projects spend
  • Balance Sheet reconciliations
  • Prepare accruals & pre-payments to support month end accounts
  • Representation at internal meetings and liaise with external organisations as appropriate


  • Experience of working in a finance office working with with multiple cost centres
  • Familiar with computerised accounting systems
  • Highly motivated, well organised and methodical
  • Able to work with low levels of supervision but knows when to seek advice
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with different stakeholders, both internal and external
  • Ability to prioritise work and manage potentially conflicting demands on time while maintaining accuracy
  • Part qualified AAT or Book-Keeping qualification or extensive practical accounting experience
  • Experienced Excel user
