Head Barista

Hot Numbers Coffee Ltd is a vibrant and independent coffee roasting business serving fresh and exciting food at our three busy cafés in Cambridgeshire. Our Roastery, in Shepreth, is also the base for our commercial bakery and pizzeria.

An exciting opportunity for a Head Barista role at our Roastery Café has become available. With the growing demand for training, increasing amounts of staff numbers and the need to make sure Hot Numbers upholds its high reputation in the coffee world, the Head Barista role is vital to being able to meet these standards.

Working closely with The Hot Numbers Coffee training department. You will receive one-to-one coaching on how to deliver coffee training to your colleagues; from basic coffee knowledge, working on the bar, using The Hot Numbers coffee equipment, upholding Hot Numbers high quality coffee standards and monitoring QC's on a day-to-day basis, basic machine repair, coffee orders both retail and café use.

Main duties and skills:

• Work with team members in each of the Hot Number Cafes to train them to the high standard of coffee beverages as expected by the company.
• Liaising with Café Managers for scheduling purposes to ensure efficient working whilst training.
• Work closely with our Roastery Manager to assist with wholesale training when needed.
• Teach key aspects of specialty coffee in practice such as; steaming milk correctly, dialling in espresso etc.
• Using the TDS machine to guide employees on how to test filtered coffee.
• Take part in coffee trainings for more in-depth knowledge at the Roastery to include; Background detail of how and from where we source our coffee and where from e.g., single origins and basic knowledge training e.g., differences between Arabica and Robusta.
• To work well with the other team members to ensure efficient work throughout the day.
• Regular stock checks of the café use tea and coffee, retail tea, coffee, and equipment and to assist/advise with the ordering to ensure the café is appropriately stocked at all times.
• To be a key holder and be able to proficiently open and close the café and to do so when scheduled to.

Availability and hours of work: This is a full time job role. The successful applicant would be looking to dedicate at least 6 months to the role due to our employee onboarding training program here at Hot Numbers. Unfortunately if you have plans to travel or study this role is not for you. Our full time contracts are 32 hours based on a 5 day working week out of 7. You will be required to be available weekends. Our cafes open from 7am-5pm Monday- Thursday, 7am-9pm Friday- Saturday and 7am- 5pm Sundays. Opening shifts start at 6.30am. The availability to work a pizza evening is not a essential but would be a positive.

Employment: Your starting pay will be reviewed with successful completion of a 3-month probationary period within your role.
