Job Title: Health and Safety Coordinator

Contract Type: Permeant

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours p/w

Salary: £23,000.00 - £26,000.00 per annum

Summary of Role: To raise the awareness of health and safety with all apprenticeship learners and employers. To build and maintain relationships with learners, employers and Trainer Coaches to ensure we have auditable Health and Safety records on each learner and employer undertaking apprenticeship programmes. To ensure learners are working/learning in a safe working environment, in line with HSE & WG code of practice. To support and develop a positive health and safety culture amongst learners and employers.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

  • To be the main point of contact for all learner H&S questions for employees, learners and employers
  • Ensure all health and safety appraisal and monitoring activities are planned, completed and monitored in accordance with the code of practice for all learners and employers including Associates and Sub Contractors
  • Complete site visits to conduct appraisal and monitoring documentation in line with risk banding requirements
  • Ensure YPRA’s and onsite checklists in place for those learners living on site under the age of 18
  • Quality check all employer and learner documentation identifying areas for improvement and provide training where relevant
  • Ensure employers hold adequate insurance and monitor on an annual basis
  • Ensuring all health and safety actions from appraisal and monitors are actioned to a successful outcome
  • Monitor health and safety data whilst working with Managers to ensure completion of health and safety documentation is timely and to a high standard
  • Monitor the enrolment of new Apprentices, ensuring relevant health and safety documentation is completed accurately and timely
  • Work closely with Sales team and Trainer Coaches to ensure clear communication channels are in place between the training provider, learners and employers
  • Provide training to new employees on learner H&S processes
  • To investigate and record incidents and near-misses, and report as appropriate
  • Assist the Department Manager and H&S Lead ensuring all employees and learners are safe in their workplace/learning environment, to include but not limited to annual audits and accident investigations
  • Identify and implement areas of improvement to support all aspects of learner health and safety and best practice across the Group
  • Work closely with the Group Safeguarding Lead to discuss any areas of concern which link to Health and Safety
  • Elements of the role may involve working with adults at risk, children and young people in an educational setting.
  • Reviewing the safeguarding and wellbeing of learners and escalating through the appropriate process where required.

Essential Criteria

· Excellent organisational and communication skills

· Demonstrable experience and knowledge of Health & Safety

· Tenacious individual with demonstrable experience of exceeding targets

· Knowledge of risk assessments in the workplace

· Competence in using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

· Full driving license and own vehicle

Desirable Criteria

· IOSH Managing Safely/NEBOSH or equivalent

· Experience of investigating accident and incidents

· Experience working within the education sector

· Knowledge of the Welsh Government Code of Practice
