Housing Administrator

YMCA Basingstoke, RG21 4QD

Hours: 37.5 hours per week - Monday to Friday

Occasional evening, weekend and bank holiday working may be required.

Salary: £21,500 to £23,000 per annum

Job Purpose

YMCA Basingstoke is a purpose-built supported housing facility in the centre of Basingstoke accommodating 82 people aged 18-30, supporting them to live independently. This role is to assist the Head of Youth Support & Programmes and Operations Manager with daily tasks of administration, planning and organising.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • At all times work within the YMCA Way.
  • Work as an integral part of the housing support team.
  • Assist the Basingstoke Management team with day-to-day administration.
  • Answer telephone calls, scheduling appointments, organising diaries and meetings, booking rooms etc.
  • Record meeting notes and actions.
  • Assist the Management team with delegated tasks, such as generating reports, generating information, creating draft documents etc.
  • Attend weekly rent arrears meetings, delegate actions to appropriate Housing Support Staff and assist with completion.
  • Ensure rent arrears are resolved in accordance with policy; including working with individual members and their support workers to resolve rent and Housing Benefit problems.
  • Work collaboratively with, but not limited to, Operations Manager, Compliance Manager, Maintenance Officer, Credit Controller.
  • Confidently and efficiently deal with an assessed level of challenging behaviour.
  • Follow YMCA Fairthorne Group's policies and procedures at all times.
  • Ensure you act in the interests of your own safety and the safety of others at all times, taking any concerns immediately to line manager or senior management.
  • Undertake training and professional development.
  • Anything else reasonably requested by the management of the charity.

Person Specification & Key Competencies

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A good level of computer literacy, able to use Microsoft Office and housing management software, or willingness to learn.
  • Experience of working with young people.
  • Experience of working in a housing management/services role is desirable.
  • An understanding of the issues facing young people.
  • A working knowledge of equality, diversity and inclusion matters.

Personal Attributes

  • A genuine enthusiasm for the work of the charity.
  • An outgoing and friendly personality; able to communicate well and engage with a wide range of people, particularly young people.
  • A methodical and accurate approach to work, able to complete tasks to deadlines and present good reports, both written and verbal.
  • Good organisational skills, in order to manage a highly varied and unpredictable workload.
