Merlin Power is a leading supplier of electrical power products and systems to the marine, specialist vehicle and defence industries. With over 30 years in business, our systems have been fitted to everything from Formula 1 Trucks to front-line Main Battle Tanks and surveillance vehicles to yachts.

The industry is experiencing explosive growth and Merlin is positioning itself to take advantage of this and expand. The technical abilities and resources within the company are vital to fuelling this growth and the Company is now looking for an Installation Manager to oversee our new installation workshop and Team.

As power systems become more complex, many users are finding that conventional vehicle builders and installers lack the knowledge and expertise required. Therefore, Merlin is starting to provide “Pre-Installed Solutions” which enable them to install those complex systems or, in some cases, Merlin is undertaking the vehicle fit-out and build in limited numbers. The vehicle building is limited to complex, sensitive and highly specialist platforms used in defence, police and by security agencies. We are also building a mobile installation team to provide turn-key solutions for users and vehicle builders along with on-the-road support.

After a successful trial period, we have proven the business case. The Installation Manager now will take this pilot project and turn it into a fully functioning pre-installation and installation department.

The successful candidate will be experienced in the operation and management of a workshop. They will be a clear and concise communicator, a leader and have the ability to mentor a new and growing department. Our installations and systems are renowned for being world-class – the new installation manager will be focused on ensuring that our solutions continue to be the best. Experience in vehicle and electrical system installations is required.

Responsibilities Include:

1. Workshop Management

  • Setting up our new workshop to include the necessary equipment, tools and procedures
  • Building workshop team of engineers, provision/organisation of training, line management of engineers
  • Pricing of installation work and jobs to sales department
  • Running workshop diary and ensuring that jobs are completed on time and budget

2. Quality Control

  • Working with design engineers on the development of system drawings and feed-back during prototyping
  • Quality Inspections of installations and testing
  • Ensuring that correct work practices are followed and methods are implemented
  • Ensuring that we are using correct specification of components used during installation.

3. Mentorship, Training & Installation

  • Working with and alongside engineers on key installations, prototypes and providing extra assistance when up against time constraints.
  • Designing and building prototype preinstalled systems alongside design engineers

4. Responsible Person

  • Responsible person for designing, implementing and ensuring that Health & Safety, Environmental and Human Resources policies are implemented & adhered to.
  • Management of engineers, holidays, time keeping etc

Any other reasonable task or duty as requested by management.

Requirements Include:

  • Proven experience in managing a workshop
  • Experience in electrical system installation – must be vehicle-based
  • Experience in managing a team of engineers/technicians
  • A critical eye and attention to detail – especially in terms of quality control, paperwork and ensuring that standards are met.
  • Preferred but not essential NECEIC certification
  • Higher level certification required in an engineering based field
  • You may be required to undertake security screening, therefore any criminal record must be disclosed
  • Full UK driving licence.
