We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Laboratory Technician to join our team capable of ensuring compliance and familiar with UKAS ISO17025 technical requirements for laboratory accreditation and product testing and for Research & Development (R&D), Quality Control (QC), and Product Testing processes. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting and overseeing the testing of grease interceptors, grease recovery devices (GRDs), trade effluents, and soil samples to ensure compliance with international environmental and safety regulations.

Role Overview: The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for performing analytical testing and quality assurance activities. The role involves working with oils, grease, wastewater samples and materials testing to ensure compliance with industry standards and enhance our product offerings.

Key Responsibilities:

Laboratory Testing, Analysis & Compliance

  • Perform laboratory testing of grease interceptors, GRDs, trade effluents, and soil samples in accordance with international regulatory standards.
  • Ensure compliance with UKAS ISO17025 technical requirements for laboratory accreditation and product testing.
  • Maintain accurate records of test results, lab procedures, and quality assurance documentation and analyse test results for product performance optimisation.
  • Conduct chemical, physical, and microbiological analysis of FOG (fats, oils, and grease), trade effluents, filtration system efficiency, and wastewater samples.
  • Carry out FOG separation efficiency tests for GreaseShield.
  • Perform pH, turbidity, viscosity, and moisture content tests for product and material evaluation.
  • Assist in testing new formulations, materials, and coatings for product enhancement.
  • Operate and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure precision and reliability of test outcomes.

Quality Control, Compliance & Accreditation

  • Ensure all products meet regulatory and environmental compliance standards (ISO, UK-EU environmental standards, food safety regulations).
  • Ensure all laboratory activities comply with ISO17025 accreditation and UK regulatory standards.
  • Assist in maintaining ISO 9001 and other relevant quality accreditations.
  • Assist in laboratory audits and assessments to maintain ISO17025 accreditation.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and inter-laboratory comparisons to validate lab results.
  • Support ongoing efforts to improve testing methodologies and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Conduct routine inspections of raw materials and finished products for quality assurance.
  • Prepare quality reports, test certificates, and compliance documentation.

Research & Development and Product Development Support

  • Assist in the development and validation of new products and technologies related to environmental waste management.
  • Conduct performance and compliance testing for new and existing EPAS products, including GreaseShield and FilterShield.
  • Conduct pilot-scale tests and collaborate with the team on new product innovations.
  • Collaborate with teams to optimise filtration and separation technologies.
  • Provide technical data and reports for regulatory submissions and product certification.
  • Participate in scientific research studies on grease management, wastewater treatment, and material advancements.
  • Support prototyping and performance evaluations for R&D projects.

Key Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Biochemistry, Laboratory Technology, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of UKAS ISO17025 standards and accreditation processes.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • 3-4 years' experience in a laboratory or industrial setting, mainly ISO 17025.
  • Experience in compliance testing for grease management systems and environmental waste treatment.
  • Knowledge of spectrophotometry, chromatography, and advanced material testing methods.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in laboratory testing techniques.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and laboratory report writing.
