From the head office in Swanley, Kent the Swan Mill Group is one of the largest UK manufacturers of paper tableware and disposables for the ‘away from home’ and UK retail markets. From their factory in Wales they supply 40 million metres of wrapping paper, Christmas tinsel and also store some of the 30 million Christmas crackers that the group makes and sells annually. The group is supported by a buying, sourcing and selling division in Hong Kong where a team of 15 people are based and they handle worldwide sales.

In addition, the group owns two of the largest and best known UK independent card publishers which are run as separate sales and design entities. Ling Design is based in Bath and manufactures over 20 million cards for UK supermarkets, independent card shops and export markets. The Great British Card Company is based nearby in Gloucestershire and specialises in the supply of greetings cards including licensed designs to garden centres and independents around the UK. GBCC also runs a ‘brokerage’ offer whereby they manage the card space for premium retailers.

The group also owns luxury gift packaging brand Penny Kennedy which is sold by the Swan salesteam as part of their sales and customer product solution.

Reporting directly to the group CEO this position can be based at either our Bath or Gloucester site full time, with the requirement to visit the other site for at least one day every 2 weeks. This role will be overseeing the marketing and product development of two of our businesses whose portfolios include greetings card and gift wrap. This role will suit someone who relishes the opportunity to both develop and roll out the marketing strategy whilst working with internal stakeholders across the group to build and maintain brand awareness.

Responsibilities will include development and launch of new products including Spring and Christmas ranges as well as organising and managing our presence at trade shows to ensure the best possible presentation of both the brand and our product ranges. All of this will be running alongside of promotion in the trade press and maximising utilisation of our social media channels.

The key skills and experience we are looking for will include:

  • at least three years experience in an FMCG marketing
  • keen eye for design
  • an attention to detail
  • commercial awareness
  • strong copywriting skills
