Full job description
Role Overview
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Materials Testing Technician to join our team within the Concrete and Quarry business. This role is suited to someone with experience in construction materials testing or a strong practical background, who is confident working both independently and as part of a team.
The successful candidate will play a key role in carrying out sampling, testing, and reporting activities for both concrete and aggregates, supporting quality control processes and ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Concrete
- Conduct on-site sampling of fresh concrete in line with relevant standards
- Perform on-site testing (e.g., slump, temperature, consistency)
- Carry out cube making and ensure correct identification and traceability
- Manage laboratory curing of concrete samples
- Undertake cube testing (compressive strength) and interpret results
- Complete accurate reporting and data entry in line with quality procedures
- Participate in and support laboratory concrete trial mixes
- Assist in maintaining consistent product quality and resolving testing issues
Aggregates
- Carry out quarry sampling to confirm material compliance
- Perform weekly sample collection from our various Quarries.
- Complete sample preparation in accordance with testing requirements
- Conduct wet sieving analysis
- Perform dry grading and flakiness index testing
- Accurately record, analyse, and report test data
Additional Duties
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory testing equipment
- Ensure all testing complies with relevant UK and European standards
- Maintain laboratory records in line with quality management systems.
- Support health & safety compliance across both laboratory and site activities
- Contribute to general laboratory housekeeping and continuous improvement

Required Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience in concrete and/or aggregates testing, or a similar technical role
- Good understanding of laboratory and site testing procedures
- Familiarity with relevant standards (e.g., BS EN standards) is advantageous
- Competent IT skills, including data entry and basic use of spreadsheets
- Full UK driving licence (preferred due to site travel requirements)
