Company Information: BioteCH4 own and operate a group of anaerobic digestion facilities across the UK. We also provide biological support, emergency response and feedstock supply to other operators within the industry. Our industry expertise means we not only have the knowledge and experience to deal with all the food waste the UK produces. We also have the capacity to handle whatever quantity you need us to, from the majority of sectors across each of our plants. In 2023 BioteCH4 handled 602,318 tonnes of waste, applied 416,732 tonnes of digestate to land, and generated 296,896 MWh of energy.

Hemswell Biogas is a large processor of food waste located in Lincolnshire and has been designed to handle a wide range of waste feedstocks and capable of producing 13.1MW energy generation. Through a process called Anaerobic Digestion it utilises the waste as a raw material to create methane, which in turn is used to generate both gas and electricity that is 100% renewable and exported to the national grid.

Overall Purpose of the Role:

The engineering team are responsible for the maintenance and repair of Processing machinery, AD process equipment, water treatment plant, buildings and site civils. They are also charged with optimising the performance of the AD process by interpreting analysis results e.g. methane content and H2S of Biogas and taking the necessary action. The individual working within the team of engineers need to ensure:

  • Adherence to safe working practices
  • All aspects of engineering both electrical and mechanical knowledge
  • Timely response to breakdowns
  • High quality of maintenance and repair
  • A proactive approach to improving machinery efficiency and effectiveness
  • Out of hours engineering support (that include weekends) is detailed in the call-out rota

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Adhere to the Site Health & Safety policy in all work activities
  • Completing Planned Maintenance tasks and recording of corrective actions on the computer-based Maintenance system
  • Ensuring that time keeping, and punctuality is maintained at an acceptable level.
  • Co-ordination of breakdowns ensuring quickest possible response and rectification
  • Scheduling and organisation of maintenance and improvement works and liaising with suppliers to source critical parts
  • Ensure all breakdowns are recorded
  • Ensure stock levels are maintained to a reasonable economic level, ensuring common failure parts are available by identifying parts required and upcoming issues are identified to the Engineering Leader
  • Supervise contractors ensuring safe systems of work are followed
  • Responsible for equipment repairs / refurbishment and any new installations and fabrications work
  • Completion of timely, accurate paperwork
  • Assistance with project work with Engineering Manager

The ideal applicant will have worked in a similar industry and must have relevant engineering and electrical qualifications to back up experience gained within this field. With the ability to communicate effectively and with a proactive and methodical approach to projects and tasks.


Working Time: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday + call out/on call rota + additional needs of the business
