Night Concierge

YMCA Southampton

Zero hour contract

£11.44 per hour

Job Purpose

George Williams House provides a safe place to live, intensive personal support and a hub for group activities for 52 young people aged 18-22 in the heart of the city centre, with an additional 16 bedspaces of housing for those with lighter touch support needs at 2 further sites in Southampton.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • At all times work within the YMCA Way, in particular demonstrating our values.
  • Ensure the premises are kept secure and carry out periodic patrols internally and externally.
  • Carry out housing management duties including de-escalating anti-social behaviour, removal of unauthorised visitors, managing disputes and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and review CCTV coverage, downloading incidents of importance and filling reports and data using YMCA's systems.
  • Ensure risk management plans and safeguarding processes are followed, including escalation of major incidents in line with policy.
  • Note and report any repairs identified during the shift.
  • Keep accurate records relating to individuals and any incidents that may occur, ensuring that this information is passed on in the specified way to the management and engagement team, while ensuring that professional confidentiality and boundaries are maintained.
  • Ensuring that the fire safety of the premises is not compromised, that all fire exits and escape routes are free from obstruction.
  • Provide fire warden support for the building (training will be given) including management of evacuations and operating fire alarm system controls.
  • Liaise with the emergency services (Fire, Police or Ambulance) in the event of a serious incident occurring.
  • Offer signposting or appropriate advice to any resident who may be in crisis. Training and guidance will be given.
  • Carry out basic housekeeping and cleaning duties.
  • Act in the interests of your own safety and the safety of others at all times, including following lone working procedures.
  • Attend staff meetings and undertake training and professional development which may take place during daytime.
  • At all times follow YMCA's policies and procedures and report key risks to line manager or other senior staff.
  • Anything else reasonably requested by the management of the charity.

Person Specification & Key Competencies

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant experience in a similar role or industry.
  • A commitment to relating positively to residents, visitors, staff and volunteers.
  • Excellent communication skills and good IT skills.
  • Ability to react positively and effectively when faced with unwanted or high-risk behaviours.
  • An understanding of safeguarding principles and procedures.
  • An understanding of equality and diversity matters.

  • A genuine enthusiasm for the work of the charity.
  • A friendly and warm personality, able to communicate and engage positively.
  • An ability to work under pressure and manage challenging situations.
  • Good organisational skills to manage a varied and unpredictable workload.
