BioteCH4 is a leading operator in anaerobic digestion in the UK, specializing in the collection and recycling of food waste, oils, and fats. Summary
We are seeking an experienced Plant Manager to oversee our anaerobic digestion facility, Hemswell Biogas. This role is crucial for ensuring operational excellence, quality control, and continuous improvement within our plants. The Plant Manager will play a key role in driving efficiencies and maintaining high standards of safety and compliance.
The Plant Manager (PM) is accountable for all aspects of the plant performance, with responsibility for overseeing employees, production and efficiency, to make sure the plant is running smoothly, quickly, efficiently and safely.
The PM is also accountable for developing and maintaining the culture of doing business in line with our values and beliefs.
Responsibilities
- Managing the daily operations ensuring that resources and support are adequately in place to ensure a 24/7 operations, to optimise the plant performance.
- Ensuring safety procedures are implemented and adhered to for employees, visitors and contractors.
- Ensuring adequate information, instruction, training and supervision is provided to all staff, with accurate records kept and made available as required.
- Ensuring compliance with procedures and guidelines in accordance with HSE, Environmental Permit, PAS 110, ABPR and ISCC.
- Being the nominated person regarding Certificate of Technical Competence (COTC), ensuring adequate COTC cover during any period of absence.
- Preparing, analysing and the issue of production and performance reports e.g. daily summary, monthly KPI, quarterly and annual EA reports.
- Ensure any new equipment and/or process is fully and properly documented.
- Ensure any changes made to current equipment and/or process is fully and properly documented.
- The development and implementation of a comprehensive planned preventative maintenance program (PPM)
- Ensuring procedures and contingencies are in place to minimise downtime of equipment due to breakdowns e.g. call-out procedures, holding of critical spares etc
- Ensuring periodic testing and inspection of equipment and machinery is implemented and adhered to, in line with requirements of the manufacturers instruction and compliance with Safety, Environmental and Occupational Health legislation.
- Ensuring periodic inspection and audits are conducted on specific areas of the site, in accordance with compliance to Safety, Environmental and Occupational Health legislation.
- Controlling/managing costs to achieve budget goals
- Ensuring all administrative records are maintained and correctly retained.
- Authorising and approving payment for additional hours worked by employees.
- Management and coordination of employees using, but not limited to 1:1s, operational team meetings, employee performance management and project meetings.
- Instigating and instructing the available resources for HR, Compliance, Finance, Process Health and Project Management
- Stay up to date with latest production techniques, management, best practices and concepts
Requirements
- Relevant qualification held or working towards, and/or minimum of 24 months ‘time served’ experience in a similar role
- Knowledge of Anaerobic Digestion process; Understanding of how to manage Health & Safety on site.
- WAMITAB qualified
- Ability to read and interpret industry drawings
- Experience managing plant, including budgets, people, performance and KPI’s; Proven track record in analysing data for KPI’s and managing these for improvement; Experience with managing contracts, hire and purchase and negotiating these within budgets set; Directing and supervising of Contractors
- Development and Implementation of ‘Safe Systems of Work’; Management of SOP’s and legislative documentation
- Computer Literate; Motivated Self – Starter with good Communication and managerial skills; Ability to communicate effectively to diverse range of shareholders; Ability to extract salient points from written or oral statements; Ability to write clear and concise English.
- Reliability, discretion, diplomatic manner and impartiality of judgment; Ability to exert personal influence
- Flexibility to perform duties outside of normal working hours; Travel - Driving licence for visits to suppliers/contractors etc. will be required.

Pay: £70,000.00-£75,000.00 per year
