North Air is responsible for providing into-plane services on behalf of major oil companies. We operate at 20 locations across the UK, where we carry out approximately 300,000 fuelling’s per year. We aim to provide safe, reliable and efficient into-plane services to our customers' satisfaction.

Job Purpose:

To carry out plant maintenance on fuel farm and hydrant system equipment. Duties will involve preventative maintenance, equipment defect repairs; working with contractors; observance and adherence of all safety and quality control requirements; general good housekeeping. This role may also include fuel farm operational tasks such as receipt of fuel into storage and product quality testing.

This is a regional role primarily covering Central and Southern England; however, national travel across the UK may be required for projects. Ideally, the successful candidate will be based within the Central or Southern regions. A company van will be provided.

Travel requirement; up to 75% (depending up on the project location (max 7- 10 days away from home and 7 days OFF)

The salary for the role is £46,000 + Bonus up to 7.5% + overtime

This role is working 5 days over 7 including weekend work

Key Responsibilities:

  • To act as Permit to Work Issuing Authority, including Supervising 3rd Party contractors and site engineering work. (Incorporating review of Risk Assessments & Method Statements associated with the task).
  • Ensuring that both preventative and corrective maintenance works are carried out on various North Air sites in accordance with the company standards and thereafter recorded in the company CMMS system.
  • Familiarity with safety-critical equipment such as PSVs, TRVs, etc.
  • To ensure that any working area is suitably maintained to provide a safe and suitable environment for maintenance.
  • To raise ideas that will provide development of procedures or equipment design, which will improve the safety, efficiency or serviceability of operational equipment.
  • To assist in developing new or updated task breakdowns for maintenance-related activities.
  • To be responsible for maintaining a satisfactory level of personal training about task breakdowns and technical competency. (For example, L1 and L2 Permit to Work training, Confined Space Entry, Gas Testing etc.)
  • Ensure that suitable levels of critical spare parts are identified and maintained at site level whilst keeping within agreed budgets.
  • Raise purchase orders for spares and service in a timely manner to allow maximum efficiency of equipment.
  • Actively participate in the Near Miss reporting process and Safety Observational Conversation (SoC) process.
  • Develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders, including site managers, suppliers, and 3rd party contractors.
  • From time to time, manage small to medium site-based projects in conjunction with the Engineering & Projects Delivery manager and local site manager.
  • Ability to program and plan own work schedule to align with maintenance requirements

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Must have completed an apprenticeship in a mechanical/maintenance discipline or undergone some equivalent method of training and have had at least 5 years of practical experience post apprenticeship.
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant engineering or industry experience (preferably in energy sector).
  • This position requires an airside pass, so will be required to complete a basic criminal records disclosure and have a 5-year employment record, which meets with the British Airport Authority Regulations
  • Knowledge and experience of health & safety procedures/requirements.
  • Control of Work experience – exposure to Permit to Work, Risk Assessment, Method Statements.
  • The ability to work safely whilst meeting deadlines and objectives.
  • Strong Interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to solve problems and think logically

Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Working knowledge of aviation and/or fuel storage equipment.
  • Working Knowledge of Computerised Maintenance Management Systems preferred but not essential.
  • Familiarisation with DSEAR Regulations, Hazardous Area Classification/Zoning would be advantageous.
  • Experience of managing Permit to Work systems, or Safe Systems of Work.
  • Project Management and Management of Change (MoC) experience.
  • Familiar with maintaining plant equipment like, PSV, TRV, pumps, vessels, etc
  • Familiarisation with CMMS database, such as SAP, MAXIMO, etc…
