Job purpose/ summary of the overall job assignment:

As a POS Specialist at Qima Café, you will play a crucial role in the café’s front-of-house operations by managing the point-of-sale system and ensuring smooth transactions. You will be the main point of contact for customers at the register, greeting them with a warm and professional demeanor while processing their orders accurately. Your role will involve explaining Qima Café’s offerings, answering questions about the menu, and providing exceptional service with a focus on efficiency and accuracy.

POS Management & Cash Handling:

  • Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system efficiently and accurately, processing customer orders, payments, and refunds.
  • Handle cash, credit, and digital payments, ensuring accuracy and accountability during transactions.
  • Balance the cash register at the start and end of shifts, ensuring that any discrepancies are immediately reported.

Customer Service & Engagement:

  • Greet customers warmly and engage in friendly conversation to create a positive café experience.
  • Answer customer inquiries regarding the menu, including coffee selections, food items, ingredients, and preparation methods.
  • Provide detailed information about Qima Café’s backstory, offerings, ensuring customers are fully informed before making their selections.

Product Knowledge & Recommendations:

  • Provide personalized recommendations to customers based on their preferences, enhancing their overall experience.
  • Suggest upsell opportunities, such as adding pastries or beverages to customer orders, to increase sales and improve customer satisfaction, based on product knowledge.

Maintain Cleanliness & Organization:

  • Ensure that the POS area is clean, organized, and well-stocked with necessary materials, such as receipt paper, pens, and change.
  • Maintain the café’s high standards for cleanliness and hygiene, especially around the register and customer interaction areas.

Collaborate with Team Members:

  • Work closely with the service team, kitchen, and baristas to ensure smooth order processing and efficient service during peak hours.
  • Communicate customer preferences, special requests, and order changes to the relevant team members.

Resolve Customer Issues:

  • Address and resolve customer concerns related to orders, payments, or service, ensuring that each customer leaves with a positive experience.
  • Handle any complaints with professionalism and empathy, escalating issues to the Service Supervisor if necessary.

Promote Qima Café’s Brand and Values:

  • Represent the Qima Café brand by embodying its values of quality, customer care, and community.
  • Participate in promoting special offers, loyalty programs, and upcoming events to customers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

Required:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a customer-facing role, preferably in a café, restaurant, or retail setting.
  • Experience operating a POS system, handling transactions, and managing cash/card payments.
  • Strong customer service skills with a friendly, professional demeanor.
  • Ability to engage with customers, explain menu items, and provide personalized recommendations.
  • High attention to detail when processing orders and balancing the cash register.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to handle customer concerns and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members to ensure smooth café operations.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and peak hours.

Desired:

  • Previous experience in a specialty coffee environment or knowledge of coffee and food pairings.
  • Experience with upselling techniques and customer engagement initiatives, such as loyalty programs.
  • Familiarity with hygiene and food safety standards in a café setting.
  • Basic knowledge of stock management for maintaining supplies at the POS station.
