Diversity Resource International (DRI) C.I.C. aims to develop human capital and create a safe environment for learning and development for ethnic minority individuals and organisations in Sussex. Purpose:
Successful delivery of DRI programmes relies on making good relationships with key organisations and individuals in the local area and you will be part of the team responsible for ensuring these partnerships work. Your communication skills, time management and organisational abilities will be key to the success of the community development programmes in the role of DRI services and projects coordinator.

Main Duties & Job Description
Ensure the coordination of DRI’s projects relevant to Sussex-based minority ethnic communities, work closely with DRI’s team members, and build on existing relationships with minoritised communities, partners, individuals and organisations.
Your role will involve the successful delivery of high-quality community development and engagement programmes. You will be coordinating and supporting the following programmes:
- Community programmes to develop local minoritised communities
- Community researchers programmes
- Business leadership and management support
- Bilingual advocacy, community outreach, mentoring and coaching
- Initiatives supporting inclusive education
- Training public, voluntary and community organisations to improve access to their services
- Community engagement events
You will also be responsible for the following tasks:
- Managing DRI participant data to ensure that all records are up to date and that reporting deadlines are met for each project.
- Developing and implementing a recruitment strategy using multiple avenues to attract volunteers and placement students
- Raising awareness of DRI locally and nationally, ensuring the best use of local media and working with partners and teams to ensure a consistent message is broadcast
- Participating in publicity events promoting the projects at all levels and increasing the DRI’s profile
- Updating the DRI’s website with relevant information and managing social media to promote the organisation’s activities
- Developing opportunities for partners to extend their work with DRI
- Analysing feedback data from programmes and working with DRI’s team to improve plans for future community development programs
- Attending regular supervision sessions and compulsory training events to enable all duties to be carried out effectively
- Assist with other administrative tasks not listed above
Person Specification:
Essential Knowledge
- Understanding and knowledge of different racial and cultural backgrounds.
- Commitment to diversity and implementing equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice
- Clear understanding of DRI’s short and long-term projects, vision, mission and ethos
- Experience of working with people from a variety of ethnic groups, cultural and social backgrounds
Essential Experience
- Experience in coordination and managing projects in the public, private or voluntary sectors
- Experience in coordination of community programmes
- Experience working in partnership with a variety of agencies to achieve agreed outcomes
- Experience and understanding of Health and Safety, Safeguarding and data handling practices
Essential Skills and Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal skills to build relationships with minoritised communities and with partners
- Excellent coordination and organisation skills
- Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing
- Ability to use IT effectively
- Strong project management skills.
- Ability to work on your own initiative towards an agreed action plan
- Ability to organise your own work effectively with a minimum of supervision and support
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential issues with tact and diplomacy
- A high level of interpersonal skills
- Commitment to the organisation and to your own personal and professional development
- Experience and understanding of community development
- The will to challenge local and global inequalities, racism, discrimination and barriers to equality of opportunities
Desirable Attributes:
- Professional qualification in a relevant discipline e.g., Youth and Community Work, Social Work, Education
- Experience in developing new contracts and opportunities with commissioners and partners.
- Experience in establishing project development and partnerships with multi-agencies
- Skills in applying for funding
Qualifications:
A Level equivalent or above.
Working hours:
The role duration is initially one year, with the potential for extension to three years, though this cannot be guaranteed. This position offers an excellent opportunity to enhance your CV by addressing the challenges faced by minoritized communities. Working hours will generally be between 9 am and 5 pm, but flexibility is required as the role includes some evenings, weekends, and travel to Sussex communities to understand project needs. A three-month probationary period applies.
Continuing Professional Development:
You will be well supported and coached by experienced mentors. DRI Directors and Associate Directors who are all from ethnically minoritised backgrounds. They are passionate about the potential of community development to empower ethnically diverse communities and to create positive societal change. As such DRI will empower you by providing one-to-one and team support.
This is a UK-based position, not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route. Candidates must have the right to work in the UK to be considered for the role.
