Quality Manager

Salary: Circa 40K

Hours: Full Time - Maternity Cover starting from mid April

Location: Tavistock with travel to our Estover, Plymouth site

The Role:

As the Quality Specialist at Altilium, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining the highest quality standards in our hydrometallurgical recycling processes and leading our Quality Management System. You will be a self-starter, with responsibility for creating and implementing Quality policies and procedures, and where necessary expanding provision, fostering a culture of collective responsibility, attention to detail, continuous improvement and sustainability within the organisation and amongst partners.

What you’ll Do:

Quality Assurance:

  • Manage and oversee provision of analytical services within the organisation and coordination of external service provision
  • Establish and manage a robust quality management system (QMS) to ensure consistent product and process quality
  • Conduct quality audits, inspections, and process assessments to identify areas for improvement
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions to address quality issues
  • Lead the development and maintenance of product specifications and standards.
  • Implement the internal anomaly system and ensure that actions are instigated and followed up in a timely manner.
  • Be responsible for administering document control for all necessary internally and externally generated documents, communicating changes to quality policies or procedures to relevant staff.
  • Manage provision of the system for calibration and both remedial and preventative maintenance for tools and equipment across the company.
  • Facilitate servicing and calibration of the required equipment by UKAS accredited calibration laboratories and external service agents where necessary.

Training and Communication:

  • Provide new and maintain necessary training and awareness requirements.
  • Issue the necessary training forms prior to the training commencing and ensure completed before filing in the individual’s Training Records.
  • Provide training to new employees in quality policies and procedures.
  • Communicate new and updated policies and procedures in line with the Quality Management System to all relevant staff.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability and sustainability.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Prepare and submit regular reports on Quality performance to senior management
  • Maintain comprehensive records and documentation related to Quality activities
  • Alignment of systems, processes and practices with ISO standards for future accreditation.

Line management:

  • Provide guidance and support to team members in identifying career goals, mapping out development plans and navigating opportunities for growth.
  • Offer ongoing mentorship to individuals within the team, sharing insights, experiences, and constructive feedback to foster professional development and enhance performance.
  • Hold regular performance conversations with team members to assess their progress, identify strengths and areas for improvement and collaboratively set objectives aligned with both individual and business goals.

What you’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field e.g. Analytical Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Occ Health and Safety, Engineering
  • Professional certifications in Quality (e.g. ASQ)
  • Extensive experience in a Quality-focussed role, preferably within the recycling or manufacturing industry
  • Proven knowledge and experience of Quality regulations and standards (e.g. ISO 14001, 9001, 17025) and auditing procedures.
  • Understanding of GLP and safe working practices.
  • Strong interdisciplinary communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making abilities.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)
