Are you someone who thrives in a fast-paced retail environment, with previous customer service experience and a passion for food and people?

We are excited to be recruiting a Retail Assistant to join the team at Borough Market. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in one of London’s most iconic destinations, helping to deliver an outstanding experience for every customer who visits our Market Store.

As a Retail Assistant, you’ll be the face of the Borough Market Store, welcoming customers, offering expert product knowledge, and ensuring the space is well stocked, well presented, and running smoothly at all times.

Key responsibilities include;

  • Offer outstanding customer service to all customers, approaching, discussing products and going the extra mile with enthusiasm and expertise
  • Assist with customer complaints as needed, helping to resolve as quickly as possible
  • Assist with trader issues / purchasing needs, as required
  • Process all transactions using the Electronic Point of Sale system in a timely and accurate manner
  • Assist the Retail Supervisor in monitoring stock levels and maintaining sufficient levels of stock for all lines
  • Ensure all POS / product signage is clearly displayed

The ideal candidate will have;

  • A good standard of education with sound knowledge of English and Maths
  • Previous experience in a high profile, demanding customer service environment
  • Intermediate level of MS Office (Outlook and Word) and a basic understanding of Excel and Powerpoint
  • Experience using Electronic Point of Sale Systems in a busy environment
  • Experience in visual merchandising and retail marketing (desirable)

You’ll be professional, enthusiastic and dependable, with strong communication skills and a proactive, can-do approach. Flexibility is key, as weekend and out-of-hours will be required. This may sometimes need to be in addition to the core contracted hours per week.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: £16.35 per hour

Expected hours: 16 – 20 per week
