SEND Teaching Assistant

Salary: £19,751 per annum + benefits

Hours: 35 hours per week (Mon–Fri, 8:30am–4:00pm)

Location: Cheadle Hulme, SK8 6RQ

Type: Term Time Only (44.4 weeks), Permanent

Seashell Trust provides care and education for children and young people with severe, profound, and complex learning difficulties and disabilities, sensory impairments, communication disorders, and autism. We are currently recruiting across our Outstanding-rated School and College for caring individuals who want to make a difference!

Our Royal School Manchester supports students aged 4 to 19 years old, each following an individualised Seashell curriculum. You will provide 1:1 support and be encouraging independence in the key development stages of our student's lives. You’ll be part of a dynamic team including Teachers, Therapists, and other SEND Teaching Assistants, working in a highly specialist, multi-sensory learning environment.

Our Royal College Manchester is a brand new, state of the art college supporting students aged 19 to 25 years old to live their best lives and help us continue to provide high quality education and care. You will be supporting our students through their individual pathways on skills for life and work, inclusion, sensory and employability.

The Successful SEND Teaching Assistant will:

  • Assist in planning and delivering engaging, individualised programmes
  • Work one-to-one with students across classroom and physical activities including swimming, cycling and outdoor activities
  • Support students with Autism, sensory impairments, and physical disabilities
  • Foster independence, communication, and social skills

You will be supporting students with challenging behaviour, intimate personal care and supporting those with physical disabilities. Some students may require support from mobility aids and disability aids including hoists and wheelchairs.

Requirements for the SEND Teaching Assistant role:

  • Experience in care or education settings (desirable)
  • Understanding of complex needs, learning disabilities, autism, sensory impairments
  • Ability to support challenging behaviour
  • Empathy and resilience
  • Enthusiasm and a commitment to positive outcomes
  • Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with students, parents, and colleagues
