Job Titles: Senior Marketing, Communications & Events Officer.

Location: Hybrid (1-2 days office) – Ideally London or West Midlands based

Reporting To: Chief Executive Officer

Line Report: Digital Marketing & Events Officers

Contract Type: Full Time - 5 days per week - permanent contract

Salary: £27,000 to £32,000*

Holiday Entitlement: 33 Days, inclusive of bank holidays

2. Scope and purpose of the role

This is an exciting and unique opportunity to join The Security Institute at an important phase of its growth and development.

The Senior Marketing, Communication & Events Officer is a vital role within The Security Institute team, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer. The purpose of the role is to market the organization and deliver engaging communication and events to the membership and wider community. You will play a vital part in shaping our marketing and communications and raising the awareness for our brand.

You will work closely with the Institutes leadership, managers and officers to develop and deliver high quality marketing, communications and events.

3. About you

You will be an ambitious and self-driven marketing and communications (MarComms) professional, with an understanding and passion for improving our brand and extending our reach.

You will be agile, capable of absorbing key information quickly and efficiently and be confident in managing a wide ranging and fluctuating workload.

4. Main duties and responsibilities (not necessarily in priority order)

  • To develop and deliver an engaging multi-channel marketing and communication strategy with the core aims of building our brand, expanding our reach and supporting our growth.
  • To manage our external communications and public relations in accordance with our Communications Strategy
  • To oversee the design and delivery of a portfolio of high-quality cutting-edge events, working with the Events Officer and external event managers where appropriate.
  • To produce and commission high quality content development for our outlets including the website, newsletter, social media, marketing material, magazines and journals.
  • To manage our website and other publications, supported by external web developers, ensuring consistency of message and style
  • To negotiate partnerships, sponsorship and contra deals with external parties working in collaboration with internal colleagues
  • To marketing our income-generating activities, from commissioned work to large conferences and courses.
  • To ensure that there is effective internal communications to staff, directors and advisors
  • To ensure that all staff and Board members can play their part in excellence in communications, training and equipping them as appropriate.
  • To develop informative and impactful press releases and news items for important news releases.
  • To oversee out exhibition’s engagement approach ensuring that our stands are inviting and meets the needs of the delegates
  • To be a proactive member of the small, but passionate team, contributing to other projects where necessary and liaising closely with team members to ensure that our activities are communicated in an accurate and engaging manner.
  • To ensure that appropriate records are maintained in the correct system (CRM/SharePoint) in accordance with our internal policies
  • To ensure there is cohesive and aligned work with colleagues within the organization
  • To prepare reports as required for the Chief Executive and/or Board of Directors
  • To comply with data protection legislation and act responsibly on matters of data disclosure both internally and to third parties
  • To build positive working relationships both with internal colleagues and externally with stakeholders
  • To represent the Institute in a professional manner and to act at all times in a manner which will not damage its reputation
  • To undertake any reasonable activities that may arise in support of colleagues and the Institute.

5. Essential Criteria:

  • Experience of multi-channel marketing and communications
  • Experience of creating engaging and dynamic content for a variety of audiences and mediums
  • Experience of commissioning work to paid or volunteer content creators
  • Experience of using graphic design software e.g., Photoshop/Canva
  • Experience of content management systems and updating and editing websites (WordPress/Wix)
  • Experience of event organization and management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ambition to succeed
  • Highly organised, with excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent project and time management skills and able to manage multiple projects
  • Strong relationship-building and networking skills, able to represent The Institute in a positive and professional way
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work positively in a high performing team
  • Highly competent in using the Microsoft Office 365 suite
  • Capacity and willingness to travel on occasion throughout the UK, including overnight stays.
  • Evidence of the right to work in the UK.

6. Desirable

  • Educated to degree level or Professional qualification in marketing or communications
  • Experience of video editing/podcast production
  • Experience of supervising or managing staff/volunteers
  • Experience of developing a comprehensive marketing and communication plan
  • Experience of graphic design
