Summary:

PLEASE NOTE: THIS ROLE IS BASED 4 DAYS A WEEK IN OUR LEICESTER OFFICE AND 1 DAY A WEEK WFH. PLEASE ONLY APPLY IF YOU ARE ABLE TO MEET THIS CRITERIA.

We are seeking an experienced, passionate Senior PR & Media Manager to lead the PR, press and media relations for our company and our growing portfolio of multi-faceted, regional and national clients.

This is an interesting and diverse role where you will get to work with some inspirational clients who operate in a range of sectors including charity, hotels and leisure, and business support. There will also be opportunities to get involved in media relations for many of the wide array of events that we deliver across the UK and internationally.

We are looking for someone who is an accomplished multitasker and relationship builder, who has the skills to deliver top-level proactive PR, and be able to manage any reactive situations in order to promote and protect our company and our clients’ brands and reputation.

You will have proven experience in all aspects of media relations, have a strong knowledge and understanding of the media landscape, and be proactive and confident in developing and nurturing client, media and internal relationships.

You will need to have a hands-on, yet strategic approach, and the ‘know-how’ to curate and deliver authentic and compelling news stories, spot opportunities, and build narratives around a variety of different brands and services.

This is the perfect position for a seasoned, proactive, self-starter with PR / newsroom / media / journalistic experience who understands the changing media landscape and can identify and capitalise on media opportunities and deliver tangible results.

Key Skills

  • Develop PR strategies and deliver far-reaching PR campaigns
  • Manage media relations on both a reactive & proactive basis
  • Develop media networks and build relationships with local, national and trade media and clients.

  • The ‘know how’ to comprehensively research and form an understanding of media and new opportunities in different sectors
  • Provide regular statistics and reports that demonstrate the effectiveness of your work

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • To be the PR lead across the business, working closely with the entire team including the Marketing Communications Manager and Digital Communications Manager, Design and Project Managers on projects, events and campaigns
  • Research, plan, develop and execute impactful hard, social and digital marketing PR strategies for our business and clients, that will engage journalists, raise brand profiles and proactively secure consistent high-quality coverage
  • Be responsible for the management of all news announcements, including copy writing, editing and distributing of press releases, articles, thought leadership, opinion pieces, blogs and awards.
  • Organise media opportunities, facilitate interviews and prepare clients / key spokespeople for media engagements, creating appropriate media responses, briefing documents and speeches
  • Daily monitoring of the media landscape
  • Be creative and devise exciting / unique ways to capture media attention, grow awareness, place clients and enhance reach – such as PR stunts and engagement tactics
  • Be confident to proactively engage with, and pitch to journalists.
  • Have the flair to spot PR and news jacking opportunities and be able to capitalise on these.
  • Manage the regular reporting for our company and clients, and use data and analytics to inform tactics and adjust PR strategies as necessary to deliver on targets
  • To proactively manage all reactive or crisis communications that aim to ensure and maintain the positive reputation of our company, clients and the brands that we manage

Responsibilities – General:

  • Represent the Company at client meetings, presentations, networking sessions and events as required.
  • Actively promote the company and its activities across the array of stakeholders, business and political networks to enhance brand profile and create new opportunity and future prospects.
  • Effectively lead, support guide and motivate peers and colleagues to help achieve overall business and personal success.
  • Undertake duties which are commensurate with the pay, grade and responsibility of the post

Essential Criteria

  • 3+ years’ experience in a journalist, media relations, PR role or similar
  • A degree or equivalent qualification in journalism, PR, communications
  • Exceptional PR management, organisational, scheduling, time and delivery/implementation skills
  • In-depth knowledge of the media landscape across broadcast, print, on-line media and influencer media
  • Experience of working with and building relationships with local, regional and national media and journalists
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills across multiple platforms
  • Skills and know-how to cultivate the media and sell in stories
  • Experience of managing reactive PR and crisis communications
  • Used to work in a fast-paced work environment and adaptable to change
  • Willingness to travel to domestically and work flexibly as projects require (intermittent)
  • The ability to remain focused under pressure, organise priorities, tackle complex tasks and issues with determination in a busy environment and in the face of resistance
  • Experience of using PR distribution, monitoring and reporting software
  • Understand how to use data to inform and adjust strategies and campaigns.

Desirable Criteria

  • Good digital knowledge with sound web, digital and social media skills
  • Strong local, national and international media connections / relations and contact base
  • Experience of having worked across multiple business sectors
  • Hold a full and valid UK Driving License

Personal attributes

  • Fluency, preferably at a native level, in English
  • Enjoys working in a demanding, multi-tasking, but fun environment
  • Personable with the ability to build and nurture relationships both internally and externally
  • Confidence to deal and liaise with journalists, stakeholders and clients at all levels
  • A proactive, team player with a positive ‘can-do’ attitude
