Full job description

Team Coordinator - Social Therapeutic Horticulture

Our Charity:

Missenden Walled Garden is an award-winning charity - empowering adults with autism and learning disabilities (our members) to transform their lives through Social Therapeutic Horticulture and community engagement. As a commissioned provider for Adult Social care, we hold a quality assured, ‘5-Star Excellent’ service rating from Buckinghamshire Council.

We support our fifty plus members through teamwork, personal development, community engagement and social inclusion. Our focus is gardening and the outdoor environment.

We do this with a dedicated and passionate team of staff and volunteers. Working together, we support our local community with our gardening skills; along with providing horticultural services, such as: planting and maintaining a 10-acre site for Missenden Abbey (our home), and growing fruit & vegetables for their kitchens. We also have a seasonal plant and produce stall, ‘Pop up and Grow’ which is run by our staff, members, and volunteers. We produce honey and apple juice, propagate plants and prepare craft items. Our additional enrichment opportunities involve beekeeping, the arts, music, dance, bushcraft, sports, and community visits.

Your Role:

· This is a fulltime 37-hour role, with a salary of £22,500 to £23,700 based on suitability. There may be potential for a job share.

· Your core working hours will be Mon-Thu from 8.30am-4pm and 8.30am-3.30pm on Fri, with some flexibility either side.

· Your benefits will include 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays and a stakeholder pension.

· We also fund an Employee Assistance Programme and offer a Cycle to Work Scheme

· Your line manager will be our Operations Manager.

Your Purpose:

As a Team Coordinator, you will provide dedicated daily support to a group of our members within the Social Therapeutic Horticultural (STH) environment of our Walled Garden; as well as externally, in our local community.

You will plan and deliver agreed structured horticultural activities, including: care, social, and task-based development skills to adults, primarily with learning disabilities.

You will assist our Team Leaders with the planning, organising and evaluating of our creative, engaging and person-centred programme of varied activities.

You will support us with the implementation of these planned activities, whilst also guiding and supporting our onsite volunteers who are alongside you.

Your work will include providing support to our: horticultural maintenance contracts, producing fruit and vegetables, and growing flowers and plants.

This is a hands-on physical role with an inclusive, ‘all hands on and in‘, team-based approach to our day-to-day operations.

Main Duties:

· Participating in enhancing the intellectual and social wellbeing of our members by providing a purposeful and fulfilling day for them.

· Assisting in providing and developing constructive and creative activities within a portfolio including horticulture, the arts and sports; whilst recognising the individual profiles of our members.

· Ensuring as a key worker to keep members files and goal plans up-to-date, and to participate in their annual care reviews.

· Offer appropriate support, guidance, and advice to our members with everyday challenges they may encounter; and/or discussing situations where external support may be needed.

· Providing appropriate overlaid support around activities to maximise our members potential for independent living.

· Assisting our members with regular access into the local and wider community.

· Providing clear structure and consistent boundaries, through effective social communication support (training available).

· Having a philosophy of privacy, dignity, independence, choice, rights and fulfilment for all our members and treating everyone with respect.

· Encouraging the maintenance of high standards of nutrition, cleanliness and personal hygiene.

· Providing administrative support on an ad-hoc basis as and when required.
