Visitor Experience Assistant
Location: The Gilbert and George Centre
Role: Visitor Experience Assistant
Salary: £12.50 per hour, plus benefits
Shifts: Friday to Sunday, 3 days per week
Term: 9-month contract (with opportunities for additional work on an ad-hoc basis)
About Us – The Gilbert & George Centre
The Gilbert & George Centre, founded by the artist Gilbert & George, is an art gallery located in Spitalfields, East London.
Opened in Spring 2023, its core mission is to provide a permanent art gallery open to everyone with access to the art of Gilbert & George. We provide a dynamic and engaging space for visitors from all over the world to experience the transformative power of art.
It is anticipated that there will be one or two exhibitions per year showcasing the creations of Gilbert & George.
It is the artist’s gift to the community of London and underscores the artist’s intention of creating ‘ART FOR ALL’. In the words of the artist, ‘London is such a changing global population every day, and if somebody comes from Venezuela or from Wolverhampton, there will be a place in London where they can see our pictures, and for everyone to convene from across the world to see the art of Gilbert & George.’
Role and Responsibilities
Join our team as a Visitor Experience Assistant at the Gilbert & George Centre, where you’ll play a pivotal role in creating a memorable and engaging experience for all our visitors. As the first point of contact for visitors, you’ll be at the heart of the action, welcoming guests, providing information about the works of Gilbert & George, and ensuring the smooth operation of the gallery.
You’ll have the opportunity to showcase your exceptional customer service skills, assist with admissions, and help maintain a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. Whether you're patrolling the galleries, answering visitor inquiries, or supporting special events, you’ll be helping to bring art to life and creating lasting memories. Visitor Experience Assistant – Key Responsibilities:
- Welcoming Visitors: Greet visitors warmly and provide them with information about the gallery, current exhibitions, and key areas of interest to enhance their experience.
- Providing Information: Offer information about the works of Gilbert & George, exhibitions, and any other relevant information, ensuring visitors feel informed and engaged.
- Admissions: Assist with admission procedures ensuring a smooth and efficient entry process.
- Gallery Patrol and Safety: Monitor gallery spaces, ensuring artworks are safely displayed and visitors follow gallery rules, maintaining a secure and enjoyable environment for all.
- Visitor Assistance: Respond to visitor inquiries and assist with any needs or special requests, providing a high level of customer service at all times.
- Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure visitors are aware of safety procedures and follow guidelines to maintain a safe environment, addressing any incidents or concerns as needed.
- Event and Exhibition Support: Assist with setting up and supporting events or exhibitions, including guiding visitors during special events and ensuring everything runs smoothly.
- Visitor Experience Improvement: Actively collect feedback from visitors and contribute ideas to improve the overall visitor experience at the Centre.
- Team Collaboration: Work effectively with other team members, including management and other front-of-house staff, to ensure smooth day-to-day operations of the gallery.

- Availability to work weekends (Friday to Sunday) on a 3-day per week basis

Responsibilities

Qualifications
- Previous experience in a customer service or hospitality role is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage positively with guests from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving, demonstrating initiative in addressing guest needs.
- Ability to work well within a team environment while also being self-motivated.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays as required.
