Yard Person/Relief Trade Counter Sales Assistant

As a result of our ambitious growth plans, we are looking to add additional high calibre people to our growing business.

The primary responsibility of the Yard Person is to be responsible for the safe efficient and smooth running of the yard operation. You will also be responsible for covering breaks and holidays on the Trade Counter. This is a pivotal role working on the trade counter serving customers face to face as well as handling enquiries over the phone. You will be answering incoming calls from customers to make sales including upsell and cross sell, answering enquiries and questions, handle complaints and provide product information as required.

A background in the hire sector would be advantageous although not necessary, experience within a sales development environment role is essential. Full training will be given.

Main job tasks and responsibilities of a Yard Person/Trade Counter Assistant are:

• Ensuring the yard and warehouse is always swept and clean
• Wash area is regularly pressure cleaned and free from mud deposits
• Helping load and unload vehicles for both colleagues, customers, and suppliers
• Support of trade counter staff in ferrying on and off hires to and from workshop and yard
• Non – Mechanical service inspections of Ladders, Steps, staging’s, Tower Components, Accrows, Bandstands, Chapter 8 Barriers, Site Fencing, Block Grabs, Plant Attachments etc….
• Trade counter cover during breaks and holidays, handling customer calls and providing customers with product and service information and advice
• To provide excellent customer service
• Safe storage of spares, Hire and Sales Stock
• Health & Safety
• To perform a walk around every evening ensuring all keys are removed from plant and any small items of equipment are removed from the yard and secured inside the depot

Key competencies of a Yard Person/Trade Counter Assistant are:

• Ideally possess Counterbalance forklift license
• Knowledge of tool and plant is an advantage
• Friendly and professional manner
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong listening skills
• Ability to take instruction from senior staff and lead by example
• High standards of Customer Service
• Proactive 'can do' attitude
• Call centre/customer service experience (preferable)
• Team player
• Ability to capture key customer information to input quality order
