Avalon is led and operated by its three founders, who have successfully built and sold startups in the past. With lots of products and systems currently in development the role will provide fast and exciting experience working with an experienced team who have built multiple products and businesses across different industries.

We are looking for a backend developer to assist an experienced CTO across three startup products and businesses. Coding will primarily be in Golang and PHP, primarily backend with some front end work. You will be working directly with our experienced CTO and business founders to build new products, improve existing offerings and maintain our internal systems. Avalon is growing fast and a fantastic place to develop within a meritocratic environment with experienced company founders.

The Role

As a Backend Engineer, you will be working on one or more of our new product initiatives. You will be responsible for building and maintaining scalable services that power our products and data platform.

The business is growing quickly on multiple fronts. There will be significant development opportunities for the right candidate who demonstrates hard work, proactivity and a propensity to deliver.

The role will be mixed between office based and home working. Avalon offers a flexible work environment where, as long as the work is done, you will be left to operate at your preference.

Experience

• 2+ years of experience in building and maintaining high-quality, scalable, service-oriented web applications and APIs.

• Continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipeline
• SQL
• Big Data Technologies
• Back-end development: 2 years (preferred)
• Golang - 2 years (preferred)
• Containerization (Docker)
• Build services and products that consistently scale
• Design and build APIs and API strategies, both internal and external
• Contribute to the design, implementation, and testing of new features
• Identify the critical details and prioritise incremental delivery
• Share and implement ideas to help our teams move fast
• Experience with Kubernetes preferred
• Experience with Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to convey ideas to a broad audience of different backgrounds
• Strong sense of ownership and focus on long-term usability and extensibility
