EMRS Junior Design Analyst
Job details
Full job description
We’re looking for an EMRS Junior Design Analyst (Grade 9) to join our EMRS Architecture and Design team at Elexon on a permanent basis.
In this role, you’ll support the analysis and design of changes across EMRS systems, data processes and services, working alongside experienced Design Analysts, Architects, Business Analysts and Technology teams.
You’ll develop your understanding of the Contracts for Difference (CfD), Nuclear Regulated Asset Base (RAB) and Capacity Market (CM) schemes while building practical experience in system design, data analysis, impact assessment and change delivery.
This is a strong opportunity for someone with experience in business analysis, data analysis, software delivery or another technical environment who wants to develop further into system and solution design.
What you’ll do:
-
Develop an understanding of CfD, Nuclear RAB and Capacity Market rules and how they are implemented across EMRS systems and processes.
-
Analyse business, operational and technical information and translate it into clear process flows, system diagrams, data flows, calculation models and other design artefacts.
-
Support impact assessments by identifying affected systems, processes, interfaces, data, users and dependencies.
-
Use data and analytical techniques to support investigations and evidence-based design decisions.
-
Produce and maintain design artefacts for assigned changes, ensuring they are clear, consistent and traceable to agreed requirements.
-
Work with Business Analysts, Solution Architects, Technology teams and product vendors to help translate requirements into practical system, process and data solutions.
-
Support the review of vendor designs and proposals, helping identify gaps, inconsistencies and areas requiring further clarification.
-
Build an understanding of the interdependencies between technology, data, operational and business requirements.
-
Support system and service investigations, tracing issues through business rules, processes, data and system behaviour.
-
Participate in design workshops and stakeholder discussions, communicating findings clearly.
-
Maintain design and data artefacts including data catalogues, interface mappings and data flows.
-
Contribute to the development of design governance standards, guidelines and the EMRS Architecture and Technology roadmap.
-
Continue developing your broader system design, data and architecture capability through hands-on delivery and support from experienced colleagues.
What you’ll bring:
-
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand complex information and identify logical relationships and impacts.
-
Experience in technical business analysis, data analysis, software delivery or a similar role, or demonstrable transferable experience suitable for developing into system design.
-
An understanding of the software development lifecycle.
-
Experience working within Agile, Waterfall or similar project or product delivery environments.
-
Capability or experience using SQL, Python or similar tools for analysis.
-
Ability to understand and document business processes, system interactions, data flows, interfaces and requirements.
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical and business information clearly.
-
A proactive approach to learning, seeking feedback and contributing to project and team activities.
-
The ability to take ownership of assigned work while adapting to changing priorities and deadlines.
-
An interest in understanding how business requirements, technology solutions and operational processes work together.
It would also be beneficial if you have:
-
Knowledge of CfD, Capacity Market, Nuclear RAB or EMRS.
-
Knowledge of the Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC) and wider GB electricity market arrangements.
-
Experience supporting impact assessments, solution options or system design activities.
-
Familiarity with UML, process modelling, data-flow modelling or wireframing.
-
Exposure to Microsoft Azure, Power BI or Databricks.
-
Experience using tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira or Sparx Enterprise Architect.
-
A relevant qualification or training in Business Analysis, Systems Design, Requirements Engineering or TOGAF.
What’s in it for you:
-
Salary - £47,800
-
Excellent benefits including bonus, private medical insurance and generous pension scheme
-
The opportunity to work within a thriving organisation which can support your growth and development
-
We operate a hybrid working approach with 2 days in our London office
