Full job description

Are you a creative and technically minded individual looking to build a career in product design? Our client is seeking a Junior Product Designer to join their growing team in Witchford.

Working within a specialist manufacturing environment, you’ll be involved in the design and development of bespoke textile-based products supplied to a diverse range of industries. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate, college leaver, or someone with a strong interest in design and product development who is eager to learn and develop their skills within a supportive and hands-on environment.

As a Junior Product Designer, you will work closely with sales, production, and management teams to transform customer requirements into practical, manufacturable products. You’ll gain valuable experience throughout the entire product lifecycle, from initial concepts and technical drawings through to production support and product improvement initiatives.

Salary: Up to £28,000 per annum
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5pm (40 hours per week)

Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed technical drawings and design documentation.
  • Create CAD files, manufacturing specifications, and bills of materials.
  • Support the development of bespoke products tailored to individual customer requirements.
  • Work closely with production teams to ensure designs are practical and fit for manufacture.
  • Assist with product costing and production planning activities.
  • Contribute ideas for product improvements and new product development.
  • Provide technical support to internal teams during the sales and production process.
  • Maintain accurate design records and project documentation.
  • Attend customer meetings when required to discuss design requirements and solutions.
  • Support testing, development, and evaluation of new products and materials.
  • Work towards agreed performance objectives and project deadlines.

Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • GCSE-level qualification in Design Technology, Engineering, Drafting, or a similar subject.
  • Strong mathematical ability, particularly in geometry and spatial awareness.
  • Excellent 3D visualisation skills.
  • Experience working as part of a team to achieve project goals.
  • Ability to work effectively in a busy and fast-moving environment.
  • Confident using computers and learning new software systems.

Full product training will be provided, making this a fantastic opportunity for someone with a keen eye for detail, strong visualisation skills, and a genuine passion for creating innovative solutions

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience within manufacturing, design, engineering, or a related industry.
  • Knowledge of product design involving textiles, fabrics, or flexible materials.
  • Experience using CAD software.
  • Sewing, crafting, templating, or pattern-making experience.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and production documentation.
  • Understanding of technical drawings and product specifications.
