We are a busy, friendly, rural NHS Trust providing high-quality care and compassion to more than a quarter of a million people across west Suffolk. We care for, treat and support people in hospital, at home and in various community settings.
The West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds provides acute and secondary care services (emergency department, maternity and neonatal services, day surgery unit, eye treatment centre, Macmillan unit and children's ward). It has 500+ beds and is a partner teaching hospital of the University of Cambridge.
Adult and paediatric community services, provided in collaboration with West Suffolk Alliance partners, include a range of nursing, therapy, specialist, and ongoing temporary care and rehabilitation, some at our Newmarket Community Hospital.
We do our utmost to achieve outstanding clinical outcomes for patients and our values of fairness, inclusivity, respect, safety and team work guide how we work and behave as a team.
With nearly 5,000 staff, from all over the world, we strive to make our organisation a great place to work. Whatever your role or ambition, we want to help you be the best you can be.
We promote a diverse and inclusive community where everyones voice counts and you can #BeKnown for whoever you are.

MAIN CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
The hourly Bank rates are £55 for core hours and £70 for unsocial hours
T he holder is required to maintain full registration with the General Medical Council and hold a Licence to Practise. Medical staff are advised to continue membership of one of the Medical Defence Organisations. You may not be allowed to work and will not be placed on the payroll until a member of the Human Resources Department has seen a copy of your current Certificate of Registration with the GMC.
This appointment is governed by the Terms and Conditions of Service for Hospital Medical and Dental Staff, subject to local conditions, as mentioned from time to time.
This post is exempt from the provisions of Section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 by virtue of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975. Applicants are therefore not entitled to withhold information about convictions which for other purposes are “spent” under the provision of the Act and in the event of employment, any failure to disclose such convictions could result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the Employer. Any information given will be completely confidential and will be considered only in relation to an application for positions to which the Order applies.
With the terms of the DHSS Circular (HC (88)) – Protection of Children – applicants are required when applying for this post to disclose any record of convictions, bind-over orders or cautions. The Trust is committed to carefully screening all applicants who will work with children and vulnerable people. The successful applicant will therefore be required to obtain a Disclosure Check (Police Check). Further information can be obtained from the Human Resources Department.
In the course of your duties, you will have access to confidential material about patients, members of staff and other Health Service business. On no account must information relating to identifiable patients be divulged to anyone other than authorised persons, for example, medical, nursing or other professional staff, as appropriate, who are concerned directly with care, diagnosis and/or treatment of the patient. If there is any doubt whatsoever, as to the authority of a person or body asking for information of this nature, advice must be sought from a superior officer. Similarly, no information of a personal or confidential nature concerning individual members of staff should be divulged to anyone without the proper authority having first been given. Failure to observe these rules will be regarded as a serious misconduct, which could result in serious disciplinary action being taken including dismissal. This requirement is not intended to conflict with the principles on openness as laid out in EL (93)51.
The successful candidate will be required to attend for pre-employment health assessment. Offers of employment will not be confirmed until satisfactory health clearance has been obtained including satisfactory Hepatitis B status if applicable.
As an employee of an NHS trust you are expected to develop your IT skills necessary to support the tasks included in your post. You will, therefore, be required to undertake any necessary training to support this. This is to take account of the need for all staff to be able to use the information systems relevant to their post. Health and Safety – It is the general duty of every employee to take reasonable care for the health and safety of himself/herself and others, including the use of necessary safety devices and protective clothing and to co-operate with management in meeting its responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act. Any failure to take such care or any contravention of safety policy or managerial instructions may result in disciplinary action being taken. The postholder is required to attend training sessions as required.
