Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Nursery Cook to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious, appealing meals tailored to the dietary needs of young children in a nursery setting. This role requires a strong understanding of food safety, menu planning, and food preparation, with an emphasis on creating a safe and welcoming dining environment. Prior experience in dietary departments, culinary arts, or food service is highly valued. The Nursery Cook will play a vital role in supporting the health and well-being of children through quality meal service.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook meals that meet nutritional guidelines and dietary restrictions for children in the nursery
- Plan menus in collaboration with dietitians or nutritionists to ensure balanced and age-appropriate meals
- Ensure all food handling and preparation adhere to strict food safety standards and sanitation protocols
- Assist with meal portioning, plating, and serving in accordance with hygiene standards
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, including equipment and utensils
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies as needed
- Follow all health regulations related to food preparation and storage
- Support catering or special event meal preparations when required
- Collaborate with staff to ensure timely meal service during designated hours
- Shop for ingrediencies and delivery meals to our sister settings.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in dietary departments, culinary arts, or food service, preferably within a childcare or nursery setting
- Knowledge of menu planning, food preparation, and food safety protocols
- Experience with food handling, meal preparation, and food industry standards
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to follow recipes and dietary guidelines accurately
