Associate - Private Client
Hours: Full-time, permanent contract
Location: Torquay OR Plymouth
Kitson Boyce LLP is a trusted and respected law firm operating from offices across Devon.
At the heart of what we do is a determination to be the law firm of choice – for both our people and our clients. We are a progressive, dynamic, professional organisation led by a partnership that is compassionate, understanding and responsive; qualities we believe shape both our culture and our future.
Being part of our firm means you will contribute to the delivery of outstanding client care within an environment where the highest standards of expertise are a given. You will benefit from development opportunities that enable you to progress personally and professionally, whilst increasing your ability to help our clients navigate the challenges they face in life.
Our social responsibility ethos is strong and we regularly participate in fundraising events – be it on mountains, across the moorlands or down to the sea – we work together to make lives better and the communities in which we work happier and healthier.
We welcome applications from all backgrounds and diversity groups.
Our Private Client Team
The team combines efficient legal support colleagues with trusted and experienced lawyers who together deliver outstanding client care across the full range of private client services. Our partners are Legal 500 recommended and have deep sector knowledge in areas including Health, Social and Elderly Care, Trusts, Tax and Succession, and Estate Planning. Our lawyers hold professional memberships and accolades such as Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE), Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).
Within our caring, friendly and experienced private client team, you will feel supported in what you do whilst enjoying the autonomy to develop your practice and client engagement.
The Role
This is an exciting new position within Kitson Boyce, created to recognise and support senior practitioners who are leaders within their field and want to play a key role in shaping the continued growth of our Private Client team.
As a senior-level Associate, you will play a key role in the continued growth and success of our Private Client department. Alongside your own complex caseload, you will have clear responsibility for supervision, training and development within the team, and will actively contribute to business development and the firm’s strategic direction.
You will handle a range of matters including Wills, Estate Administration, Probates, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Trust and Inheritance Tax Planning, and Trust Administration, while also helping to shape and refine the team’s processes and client experience.
This role is ideal for someone with proven expertise in private client work who is ready to step into a leadership position, combining high-quality legal work with mentoring and firm-wide contribution.
Who You Are
Your role in the Private Client team is key. We are looking for someone who can combine technical excellence with leadership, client management and commercial awareness.
You will:
- Have at least 5 years’ PQE in private client work, ideally with STEP membership or working towards it (all qualification routes will be considered).
- Demonstrate a broad and confident understanding of private client law, with a particular interest in developing a specialist technical focus.
- Have a proven track record of managing complex matters with minimal supervision.
- Be confident in supervising, mentoring and supporting junior colleagues, helping to embed best practice and consistency across the team.
- Demonstrate the ability to generate and develop new business, whether through existing client relationships, professional networks or referral channels.
- Be committed to excellence in client care and demonstrate integrity, trust and professionalism in all you do.
- Show genuine interest in contributing to the wider success of the firm, beyond your own caseload.
This role can be based at either our Torquay or Plymouth office. We welcome applications from candidates in both areas.
We are particularly keen to hear from candidates who are already performing at a more advanced level, regardless of your current title.
The Reward
It is extremely important that all our team members feel valued and their hard work and commitment are recognised, so we offer a generous remuneration package which makes Kitson Boyce an employer of choice.
If you work for us, you will enjoy a range of benefits which include:- A competitive salary.
- Employer pension contribution of 3% of your basic salary
- 33 days’ holiday per annum (including bank holidays).
- Gifted days off at Christmas.
- An additional day’s leave on your birthday.
- Discretionary bonus scheme.
- Occupational sick pay and enhanced family leave.
- Free corporate healthcare cash plan (WPA).
- Death in Service benefit of 4x salary.
- Employee Assistance Programme (for you and your family).
- Membership of Mindful Employer and initiatives supporting physical and mental wellbeing.
- Cycle to Work Scheme.
- Discounted legal services for employees (wills and conveyancing).
- Supported training and a defined pathway to partnership.
