Job Introduction

About the Role

Reporting into the Laboratory Manager, the successful Technician will be working on the testing of Asphalt, HBMs, Aggregate and developing products. This role is mainly based working within our National Laboratory for Technical Innovation in Wolverhampton, but you may be required to travel to deliver and obtain samples on occasions, or test on site when required.

What you'll be doing

In this role, you as the successful Technician will be carrying out the following duties and responsibilities (not exhaustive)

  • Test procedures – ensuring procedures are fully documented, understood and communicated to comply with company standards
  • Sampling & Testing – carrying out sampling and testing in line with contract requirements utilising in-house company Schedule and external 3rd party accredited test houses where required
  • Working with the technicians for laboratory testing, checking results, carrying out preliminary investigations into complaints and providing technical information to clients
  • Ensuring your work is carried out in line with company procedures and in a safe manner whilst maintaining a safe and accredited testing environment and have the correct equipment available in calibration
  • Help investigate and resolve customer complaints and queries
  • Supporting investigations and resolve quality issues
  • Organising and undertaking technical testing to ensure test regimes and workload are met


What we are looking for

We are looking for a Technician who is in possession of the following skills/attributes:

  • Knowledge of on-site Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • Working knowledge of Asphalt, HBMs or Aggregates products would be highly beneficial
  • Previous experience in the construction industry would be beneficial
  • Willingness to learn new tests, technologies and applications
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant Standards and their application, including BS 594987, BS EN 12697, BS EN 13286 and BS EN 1097, amongst others, would be highly beneficial
