Full job description
Do exceptional employment law work - from wherever and whenever you do your best work.
Your choice of office working or remote working, with travel to our Carlisle office around once a month or as needed.
This isn't a step-up role. We're looking for an experienced Employment Lawyer who is already operating at senior level and is ready to perform, take ownership and add significant value from day one.
In return, you'll get a rare combination: high-quality work with one of Northern England's largest law firms, genuine flexibility over where you work and the option to choose a working pattern that suits you from part-time hours to full-time work.
Build your future with Burnetts.
At Burnetts, we're proud of the talented people who make our firm what it is. With specialist expertise across a wide range of legal disciplines, we're a firm where people support one another, enjoy working together and take real pride in the quality of what they do.
The opportunity
You’ll join our established Employment team, advising commercial clients across contentious and advisory matters. You’ll have the autonomy to lead complex work, build trusted client relationships and shape opportunities for the team and wider firm.
What you’ll bring
- Significant post-qualification employment law experience as a solicitor or barrister
- The confidence and judgement to take ownership of complex matters
- Commercial, pragmatic advice and exceptional client service
- A strong track record of building relationships and contributing to business development
- The drive to make an immediate impact while working as part of a supportive team
Why Burnetts?
Big-firm opportunity. Serious flexibility. Great Benefits.
- Predominantly remote working, with Carlisle attendance around twice a month or as needed
- Full-time or 0.6 FTE
- 30 days' annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata)
- An additional day off for your birthday
- Private medical insurance
- Enhanced family-friendly policies
- Life cover
- Wellbeing support and initiatives
- Regular team and firm-wide events
You don't need to choose between career, quality of work and flexibility.
If you are already succeeding at senior level but want greater autonomy, flexibility and the platform to make a real impact, this opportunity is worth a conversation.
Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion
We are committed to improving the diversity of our workforce to better reflect the communities we serve. We welcome applications from everyone and work to promote an inclusive, supportive culture that values and celebrates our differences.
If you have not already done so, please let us know if you require any support so we can make the right adjustments and considerations should they be required.
Application question(s):
- Do you live within a reasonable distance to travel to Carlisle as and when required?
Work authorisation:
- United Kingdom (required)
Work Location: Hybrid remote in Carlisle
