About Us
At HDR, we specialize in engineering, architecture, environmental and construction services. While we are most well-known for adding beauty and structure to communities through high-performance buildings and smart infrastructure, we provide much more than that. We create an unshakable foundation for progress because our multidisciplinary teams also include scientists, economists, builders, analysts and artists. That's why we believe diversity is our greatest strength. HDR is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and an affirmative action employer.
Watch Our Story:' https://www.hdrinc.com/our-story'
We believe that the way we work can add meaning and value to the world. That ideas inspire positive change. That coloring outside the lines can illuminate fresh perspectives. And that small details yield important realizations. Above all, we believe that collaboration is the best way forward.
HDR was ranked #1 among the "Top 30 Data Center Architecture + AE Firms" in BD+C's "2022 Giants 400" report - the list of the largest architecture, engineering and construction firms in the United States.
Primary Responsibilities
As a Project Architect at HDR you will work on projects in a variety of sectors with a focus on Social Infrastructure projects. You’ll be working closely with the multi-disciplinary design teams, clients, and contractors throughout our Global Practice with a focus in the United Kingdom and European regions.
In the role of Project Architect, we will count on you to have knowledge of technical design concepts, design management skills, digital technologies, and design workflows.
- You will perform layout and detailing on architectural projects.
- You will establish owner/client and internal meetings and participate in reviews with governing agencies for code compliance.
- You will manage and undertake design activities and the production of design information.
- You will conduct work sessions at the project site in conjunction with the Project Manager and other disciplines.
- You will review architectural documents for conflicts with all disciplines, perform QA/QC and technical reviews, and write and edit architectural specifications.
- You will coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, RFIs, CPRs, and change orders, incorporate agreed-upon changes into project documents, provide construction contract administration as needed, and perform other duties as required.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or a closely related field and registration as an Architect (ARB Registered Architect).
- You must be proficient in Autodesk Revit and familiar with related tools and processes.
- Experience in the preparation and layout of architectural contract documents and specifications is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, as are strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- You should demonstrate strong graphic presentation skills, have an understanding and experience with various building contracts, and possess strong knowledge of building regulations and good planning skills.
- A positive attitude and commitment to being an active participant in our employee-owned culture is required.
Preferred qualifications
- Master’s degree in Architecture and a minimum of five years of post-qualification experience working on complex and diverse architectural projects in social infrastructure, such as health, life sciences, education, and civic or community projects.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required, with the ability to facilitate effectively with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
- You should demonstrate exceptional ability to manage busy workloads efficiently and effectively.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and project scheduling tools, is expected.
- Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, SketchUp, and 3D Studio Max is advantageous but not required.
- Experience with Rhino and Grasshopper is also preferred.
At HDR, we believe work is not only about who you work for, but also about what you do and how you do it. Guided by strong values and a culture shaped by employee ownership, we collaborate, build on each other’s contributions, and work together to make great things possible. When you join HDR, you are empowered to do the same. We support you in taking charge of your career and offer multiple growth opportunities along the way.
Our commitment: As employee owners, we all share responsibility for creating an inclusive environment where everyone is welcomed, valued, respected, and empowered to bring their authentic selves to work every day. Our eight Employee Network Groups—Asian Pacific, Black, Hispanic/Latino(a), LGBTQ+, People with Disabilities, Veterans, Women, and Young Professionals—help foster a sense of belonging and a supportive environment in which everyone is encouraged to engage and contribute.
