An opportunity has arisen within the Trackwork Signalling Department for a Signalling Maintenance Team Leader.

Location: Ideally based within 1 hour of East London, although all applications will be considered.

The Role

To lead a Signalling Team carrying out signalling maintenance and providing 24hr rapid response fault cover at various rail depots nationwide. The role will require the team to be on call for any signalling equipment failures on a rota of two weeks on, one week off. In addition, the successful applicant will be expected to provide signalling support for plain line and S&C renewals as required. An immediate start is available for the right individual.

As a Signalling Team Leader, your main responsibilities are as follows:

  • Establishing and maintaining appropriate safety arrangements for staff under your control;
  • Undertake work and associated duties for which you are trained and competent;
  • Undertake and direct work activities in accordance with all relevant standards;
  • Control and check the quality of work undertaken and confirm assets are compliant to standards;
  • Check that vehicles, plant, tools, equipment and materials under your control are fit for use and are used/stored and disposed of correctly;
  • Accurately report all work completed/not completed and produce/maintain records as required;
  • Contribute to your own development and that of others;
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures;
  • Maintain IRSE logbook.

The following qualities and experience are essential:

  • Minimum three year’s experience as a Team Leader;
  • Experience in carrying out signalling maintenance activities;
  • Experience in fault finding & fault rectification;
  • Experience of working in 3rd rail areas;
  • Valid SMT certificate with qualifications a, b, c, d & f;
  • Maintainer/Fault finder IRSE licence or working towards it;
  • Valid PTS with AC/DC and COSS;
  • Knowledge of railway signalling systems and sub-systems;
  • Knowledge of appropriate industry standards relating to signalling works;
  • Knowledge of quality, health, safety and environmental regulations;
  • Basic computer operating skills with knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Full clean UK driving licence.

The following qualities and experience are desirable:

  • SFI Level 1;
  • Competent to work on Clamplock Points, HW Points, HVI track circuits, AC 50 Hz track circuits and EBI200 track circuits;
  • Experience in points renewals;
  • Competent in SSI and Relay interlocking.

An up-to-date IRSE Log book will be required at interview stage.
