The team

Join our vibrant team and be the creative force behind every scene! You’ll work with the Make-Up team to craft stunning, consistent character looks, keeping our artistes camera-ready for every studio and location shoot. From expert hair styling and wig maintenance to fostering brilliant on-set collaborations, you’ll play a pivotal role in maintaining the visual magic that brings our story to life.

The role

As a Makeup Artist for Emmerdale, you’ll be at the heart of our production, working closely with the Make-up Supervisor and the wider team to create and maintain iconic character looks. From breaking down scripts and mastering continuity to providing expert hair, grooming, and makeup services, you'll play a vital role in ensuring our artistes are camera-ready, whether on set or in the studio. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, possess a keen eye for detail, and are eager to build strong professional relationships while supporting our filming blocks, we’d love to hear from you.

Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)

  • Certification in Media Makeup Application and Hairdressing.
  • Certification in Men's barbering.
  • Experience working in hair and make-up within television drama, continuing drama, film, theatre or a comparable production environment.
  • Experience providing hair, make-up and barbering services for performers/artistes.
  • Experience maintaining continuity of hair and make-up looks across filming days, productions, performances or comparable projects.
  • Experience preparing, fitting and maintaining wigs, hairpieces or similar specialist hair equipment.
  • Experience interpreting scripts, schedules, call sheets or production requirements to identify hair and make-up needs.
  • Knowledge of hygiene, health and safety and infection control practices within a professional hair and make-up environment.

Other things we’re looking for (key criteria)

  • Create and maintain hair and make-up looks that meet creative and production requirements.
  • Build effective working relationships with artistes, production teams and colleagues, communicating clearly and professionally.
  • Maintain high levels of accuracy and attention to detail when managing continuity requirements.
  • Organise and prioritise workload effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Adapt positively to changing production schedules, filming environments and performer requirements.
  • Remain calm and effective under pressure while delivering high-quality work to deadlines.
  • Demonstrate tact, professionalism, discretion and confidentiality when working with artistes and production teams.
  • Apply sound judgement when covering responsibilities outside normal duties, including supporting post-shoots or deputising where required.
  • Due to travel between location(s) and set a full UK driving Licence would be beneficial.
